Are you quilting this weekend? May 16-18
Comments (22)It's finally a beautiful sunny weekend, and I have to get some yard work done. I also have to put a new battery in my boat and figure out how to stop a slow leak in one of the through-the-hull fittings while the boat is in the water. There must be some marine product that will do that. Pulling the boat back out is too big a deal to think about right now. Our first race was last Thursday evening and it was 46 degrees. Yikes, it was cold, but we took second place. I spent hours last night setting up automatic payments of six monthly bills. I wish I could have designed some of the websites I had to use. Talk about "user un-friendly"! The only quilty thing on my list at this point is to try out my new table. My office/sewing room is only 9'x11', and it's filled with a bookcase, file cabinet, corner desk/cutting table and a 17"x45" sewing table customized for my Janome. I bought a 3'x6' folding table that I am going to try to position between the wall and my sewing table to hold the weight of the quilt while I'm FMQ. It will have to be removed and folded up when not in use, or I won't even have enough floor room to set up my ironing board. I think it might work well though. I'll report back. I just looked at the weather, and it appears that Monday will be rainy, so maybe I'll get some quilting done then. I have a friend who will be heading into her second bout with stage 4 ovarian cancer, and I'd like to get a quilt done for her. She's so brave. Have a great weekend, everyone. Comments (10)Yes.....Most days begin in the sewing room, cuppa tea or coffee nearby. Occasionally my fluffy tortie cat shares the morning ritual. No noise other than birds outside (because that is when Dh fills the feeders) and the hum of the machine. Amazingly, although my mouth doesn't work for an hour after I awaken, my hands seem to and it's a pleasant routine. I usually knock off a block before I quit and meet the day. DH is taking a short trip out of town this weekend to visit family, and I suspect that shall mean a little more time to work on current Q.I.P. which is a deliberate attempt to bust some blue stash I've had put away. I didn't know I had that many blues until I organised my material. Last night I measured a quantity of crisp white cotton I inherited along the line, to discover I had a ten yard cut of it! I was wanting to make some sets of crisp white pillow slips for the beds and it was pleasant to find out I have the material onhand. I love the traditional cotton ones, starched crisp and ironed. I also have a stash of striped cotton pillow ticking, and half a dozen feather pillows who need the flimsy, old casing replaced with sturdy new ticking to bring them back to life....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Comments (10)Me-Me-Me!!! I am right with ya! Furiously is the perfect word. I am taking a break from putting the binding on the 'her' of a his & her pair of quilts. Similar, but different, both 9Patch Pizazz using a wine themed group of different fabrics, but the same backing. I hope to load the 'his' today and decide on the quilting -- and I may need more batting!!! I had forgotten that! Need to check that now! I am also on my 4th quilt to wash - why do I wait until the last minute??? It is cold in my house, so they are slow to dry, as I take them out of the dryer a little damp. 2 Quilts were mailed this week and I just found out the boxes were received yesterday. I want/need to start a new project - if it weren't for Christmas, I would not be disciplined enough not to! I laid out the fabric and prewashed and even picked the thread to quilt it! Sometimes I need to be saved from myself :)...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Jan. 16-18
Comments (30)Wow, so many are improving their sewing spaces! Congrats to you Donna. Also to you, too Sharon, she's precious. Love the String top and glad to read so many are using or considering using their scraps. I love scrap quilts. I finished big-stitch quilting by hand the Shabby Chic top and I am adding some tying in the middle of the blocks. I've never done or even seen this combination done before but my fingers are trashed from the quilting. I am hoping to sign up for a class on the 30th to learn toothbrush rag rug making offered at the LQS. It's something different for a change and Lord knows I've got fabric. I've attempted a couple of rag rug making techniques but never this one. I will also try to set up the Long-Arm class I promised myself using the gift certificate I got for Christmas. The problem is picking the right day since I'm in and out every day morning and afternoon hauling Grandkids to and from school. I'll have to see what days the owner of the shop does it and work from there. This post was edited by ritaweeda on Mon, Jan 19, 15 at 6:01...See Morenannykins
