Difference between S cylindrica and S canaliculata
Comments (2)Penguu, You are right to wonder about the difference between these two sansevierias. However, like many similar looking sansevierias, they are not at all alike when seen up close with your own eyes and felt with your own fingers. I have not looked at the above web pages cited by Mikedahms, but the major differences between these 2 species, especially when not in flower, are in their size and the presence of grooves in the leaves of canaliculata. Canaliculata has solitary leaves that often grow close together on the rhizome. They also have a gentle curve, and clearly have longitudinal grooves; cylindrica leaves are smooth. There is no crossbanding of color (alternating green-gray bands) in their leaves as there is in cylindrica. I have a good picture of canaliculata in flower which I show here....See MoreLeaf Propagation of S. cylindrica

Comments (6)Don't redo them, unless they crack the pot. When you take the offsets from the mother plant, they will be teenagers again, and will take some time to flower. I have mine in plastic pots, so I can feel if they are filling up the pot. I want to know if offsets are coming up, when the pot turns oval you know something is going on, often they will heave themselfs out of the pot, and soil will be all over the bench, or they will crawl out of the holes, believe me you will know that they want out of that pot. I've seen them walk out of the front door. They also can crack clay pots, or expensive ceramic pots. Norma...See MoreHow’s do I Propagate these?
