Comments (18)OK, I'm on a roll this morning. So far, I bought a Kodak 850 zoom digital camera. (Dell has a good sale on it.) Get ready for good photos of roses, gardens, terraces, bald eagles, and all my other garden stuff. After that, I made my first order for new roses: Firefighter (I think one of our posters north of Allentown grows them), S. Big Purple, Julia Child, and Amber Queen. Gotta go! I'm in a buying frenzy. Isn't online buying great?...See MoreOngoing Random Photos From My Gardens
Comments (45)Thank you for the kind words! The Hansa has a sort of suckering habit but I don't mind it--it's easy to relocate a chunk! I love the Katsura--that and the Dogwoods are my favorite trees! The Juniper I've decided to not be snobby about--can't beat that evergreen color, so I'm embracing the Junipers LOL. Of course, it helps that I'm trying to cover bare ground. I wish I'd planted more trees early on, for sure! I need some Japanese Maples, I think! GH, yes I have lots of room to garden--only presently cultivating a couple of acres or so....See MoreShare Some Photos From Your Gardens!
Comments (38)Oh yay, new pictures! Thanks to all the contributors. north53, I have tons of driftwood that I have collected that I want to incorporate into a garden but haven't yet. Yours looks so natural there. Beautiful garden! sandyslopes, love all the guest appearances in your pictures. What a refuge you have there for critters! catkin, thanks for the information on the Trifoilium rubens. It seems like it would fill in nicely between more upright plants. I've added it to my list. Isn't wintersowing a blast? I just love it. If you want some coneflower seed this fall, I'd be happy to send you some. I mentioned elsewhere that my 'Pow Wow White' and 'Magnus' both grew identical to the parent plants. Can't guarantee they will do it again but might be worth a try?...See MoreRosa 'Penelope' in a garden in Madrid (Spain)- El Jardín de la Alegría
Comments (8)Moses, Lisa Adams, thank you very much !! I also miss those raised colors. I do not know if they have read the article on my blog. In it I explain that the rose is planted in the south façade of the house. That is to say, it has the maximum hours of sun per day. And when it says sun here in Spain, and more in the center of the country as it is Madrid, it is talking about a sun that achicharra, that burn !! It is a very unfavorable climate to grow delicate roses. Roses in a short time pale and turn white or almost white. That at best, some David Austin roses can not be grown at these temperatures and low atmospheric humidity. I have many varieties of DA and when I plant these roses I must seek a location protected from the inclement sun of noon. Penelope does not last many days with those tones. In a little time they become paler but as it has many buds the joy is that there will be flowers for a long time that before opening will bring the rose an intense tone. From RP I like everything, even its leaves that do not burn with my climate. In the blog article I also explain that the soil in my garden is sandy, with a pH that tends to a certain acidity without becoming totally acid. I must contribute a lot of organic matter constantly to mitigate your problem by leaching with ease. Perhaps the type of soil involved in Penelope's colors? It's possible. I have found that roses that tend to violet tones are less reddish, more lilac, more bluish when grown on acidic soil. The roses are so capricious !! I am very worried about Louise Odier this year I do not know what she has, it seems a viral problem. The roses do not finish opening and when they do they are much smaller than usual. Some buds fall when the petiole is dried. I've been watching the rose bush and I do not know if it has thrips. I am very afraid of diseases but of all the plagues the ones that give me the most fear are thrips....See MoreEl Jardín de la Alegría en Madrid
