White kitchen with contrasting island countertops or cabinets??
Comments (3)Some more info about the room and it's use. The floors are currently hardwood and we will refinish them to match the rest of the house in a dark brown. We have 2 kids, ages 5 and 10. There will be stools at the center island - probably mostly used for bfast and entertaining. There will also be a table in the kitchen so the island will not be the primary dining surface. The room flows into the family room which has a brick fireplace and white built in cabinetry. Our style is for the most part transitional. A little modern but comfortable and classic feeling. I love white marble. Always have. I know all about the risks of using it in a kitchen and am fine with them. I was pretty set with my plan for having white perimeter cabs with stained wood (in a medium grayish brown color) center island, all topped with delicious marble. But then I saw 2littlefishies and breezygirl's kitchens and fell in love with their walnut island tops. Hence my dilemma! Thanks again for any input!...See MoreIs the contrasting island trend over?

Comments (18)I think one of the reasons a different colored island works so well in many beautiful kitchens is because the countertop material is different than what is on the perimeter counters. (I think that's what makes many of us who prefer calm spaces without too many jolts of pattern and too many colors start second guessing ourselves... when we see those kitchens...) Then, imo, it starts looking more like it is a separate piece of furniture that just coordinates with the rest of the kitchen. That is what I ultimately decided when we remodeled our own kitchen and I went back and forth on a different colored island or not. (Saw examples I loved, and also examples that were just a bit too busy for what I wanted) I also decided to match the island paint color as closely as I could to the range we had purchased that ended up being a color other than SS. We knew our island counter was going to be very different, that made it feel safer and less trendy to us to choose a different paint color from the perimeter cabinets....See Moreisland contrast? dark floors? advice please!
Comments (21)After searching for 6 months for herringbone flooring, I landed on Unique floors. the acacia was 5 times less than any other herringbone I had seen. (very difficult to get pre-milled herringbone planks). I ordered 350 sq ft of it. I was so happy. It's beautiful wood. solid. but I also have the engineered acacia in the hall. Why don't you poke around there and see if you like anything? https://www.uniquewoodfloor.com...See MoreNikki
