Ring of Fire, thorny?

Ring of Fire looks like a great new orange HT. I think parents are Hotel California and Marilyn Monroe. Does anyone know if it is thorny? I remember when I received Falling In Love bareroot and saw the thorns, I said if I had known it was that thorny that I wouldn't have purchased it.

I have it on order. I expect it to be a "little on the thorny side" with it's parents. I can live with the thorns. I just hope it isn't winter tender for my garden. Falling in Love died during it's first winter for me. We will see.

I love orange roses. I'll be interested to see what this rose looks like. Not a lot of really great pics out there yet.

Hmmmmm...... they look different than mine! ;-) I thought I had a picture of 'Kiko', but I can't find one-- guess I'll have to go take one when I get a chance. It can be quite variable, depending on light and fert levels. Grow it hard and you'll get a more compact plant with lots of red spots, hence the name (kiko = spot). What do you mean, "stack up leaves"?

prefix: here we go into pepper naming and OP seed land. Hi roadkill, I grew both Ring of Fire and Dragon's Claw. My Ring of Fire grew in as a hotter cayenne type but the usual dull cayenne taste. I have grown both Winter Magic and Ring of Fire in the ground. Winter Magic is one of my top favorite mini roses. Mine gets to be a good two feet tall and a good two feet wide. The Ring of Fire that I had stayed more compact not ever getting over a foot wide or tall. It was also pretty bloom stingy for me. Bill, Did you think I was finished asking questions??? Of course not. Tomorrow I'm sealing the grout. I have a white cast iron tub I want to protect. Should I put the plywood over the tub while I seal? Would it be better to take off the plywood and try and cover the tub with towels. SCI said I had to spray it on and not roll it or use a rag. It will run down to the tub so how do I protect it? Will it damage the finish if it gets on the bathtub? I know this is a simple question but look what happened when I got involved with my grout application. Donna

Falling In Love was winter tender in my garden, too. Beautiful blooms, but so thorny and lots of winter dieback and BS. Last year I sp'd mine.

Mine didn't survive a relatively warm zone 5 winter, so I expect it's marginal in zone 6 at least. Always worth a try, but protect it if you can.

Never grew Hotel California, but Marilyn is EXTREMELY winter tender here in my zone 5.
