so what colleges have teams, and what does he want to do "when he's gown up"? most important do any offer scholarships?

ok now I don't know if they still have it, but there is supposed to be a "blue book" that lists all sorts of scholarships...have mom check with hs counselor, or even the library....and with that math score??? omg!!!

You must be very proud of him and all of his hard work. Sounds like he will go far in life. Perfect math score - wow!

Good for him. That drive and determination can take him far but can make your personal life a bit hard to deal with. Ask me how i know. I have a daughter who is a bit obsessed like this, went to an ivy league college and the whole thing. Just be supportive. He'll do fine.

There are not many colleges with men's squash teams when one compares it with sports such as basketball or football. And most are highly competitive ones such as the Ivies. Squash scholarships are few and far between - NO athletic scholarships at all in the Ivies. Most of the scholarships go to the top junior players in the world, with many from Egypt. It used to be Pakistan that had outstanding players, but for the past 15 years, players from there have great difficulties with visas to travel to tournaments all over the world.

DGS intends to major in math in college - won the State Science Fair last year with a math/statistics project - and will either do a double major with economics or a minor in Econ. He wants to work on Wall Street and make a ton of money!

Both his parents went to Cornell. Father owned a couple of companies - both went belly-up around the time of the Recession and he's been a SAHD ever since. Mother is Dir of Hospitality for a company of boutique hotels.

DGS started playing in tournaments in 7th grade but did not have multiple private lessons each week (too expensive) or a coach who travelled to tournaments with him (again too expensive). They stuck to tournaments within driving distance. Many junior players have tens of thousands of dollars spent on squash; he's done this on his own natural ability and initiative. In the end, most of the college coaches want to know a player's SAT scores before they'll look at their videos. Each coach gets 2 slots for players who might not qualify on their academics - most are top 20 players in their age group. DGS's best ranking was 90 this year do he must qualify academically. It's a good thing his father doesn't work as choosing the right tournaments and figuring out the points possible, is a full time job! Non-income producing sports don't have the clout with admissions as those that make a lot of money for the schools. I went through this with my son, who played water polo in college!

He's already had informal visits at 3 universities and will have formal ones this winter/ spring. He's aiming very high. Fingers crossed.
