5 ton vs 4 ton Heat Pump in Log Home
Comments (4)First of all, it is considered poor forum etiquette to start a new thread when you already have an active thread. Questions that you have not answered in earlier thread. What is the brand, model, size, and efficiency of existing propane furnace? What is its blower size rating? This is important if you are considering just adding on a heat pump with matching coil to existing furnace. If you really require a 5 ton, then this would most likely require significant ductwork modifications to handle the additional CFMs. Has any of the dealers mentioned this? Mighty important. What is your cost/gallon for propane? What is cost/KWR for electric? Tell us about existing problems with current system and location of problems? Basements at or partially below grade have low heating and cooling loads. Tell us about your average temp for both summer and winter? And extremes? What are your inside design thermostat setting for heating and cooling? How did existing 4 ton AC perform when it was working correctly as far as meeting your comfort requirements? The finished basement should have its own separate system preferred or at very least a zoning control. Any opportunity for insulation improvement/upgrade to basement area? I would want to see a separate load calculation for basement zone. Have you seen the load calcs in writing so that you can review? On the software letterhead? Post back. Comments (10)We put one in our bathroom downstairs. Had it for maybe 4 or 5 years now. Works great, it's mounted inside the shower which is white tile, so nice sunny environment there. It lites up the whole bathroom well, even at dawn and dusk, which kinda surprised me. Saves a lotta electricity as the florescent lites took up about 80 watts and they were on/off numerous times per day. We bought the one with the light fixture in it for night use, I installed a 13 watt florescent in it and it is plenty of light for the bathroom at night. I guess you get the idea, I'm very happy with it! We have 2 more bathrooms upstairs, our master which has windows, and a guest that does not, even thou this bathroom does have an outside wall, I'm still leaning towards another Sola Tube for this bathroom, as the bathroom is just not used enough for the expense of adding a window, and the Sola tube will lite it up real good. HTH's! Gary...See MoreLoE2 vs LoE3 glass - color tint
Comments (18)Nidnay, it's kind of rough being so color sensitive. life would be so much easier if I didn't care (but then again, maybe I wouldn't be a graphic designer). my skylights are in the shade all day long (they're on the lower level of a split level house), so that's definitely contributing to the problem. I spent weeks trying to figure out what paint colors to choose (two tone: BM Navajo White and a custom shade of blush - which still look drab in here). I'm now spending hours trying to figure out how I can somehow refract more sunlight into those skylights. my inner inventor / engineer is coming out strong. it's annoying how much time I'm obsessing over it, but I can't let it go! solving design problems is my thing. yeesh. I think I have a problem. so of course all this is going to lead to overthinking the new windows I'm getting, LOL....See MoreMedium vs Light hardwood floor
Comments (47)@Sharmeen Aghaeian @Caroline Field Sure, pics are from various stages of remodeling/decorating (so maybe 18 months in between them), but really liking them so far. Seem like good quality and don't show dirt easily. Some scratches from my kids, but even those aren't too noticeable. Have not done any maintenance yet. We wanted something updated but not trendy and I like how these floors are neutral without being too light or dark....See Morea_dette
