Miele enters the robot vacuum cleaner market
Comments (15)I've had a Neato XV-14 for over 2 years ago and love it. According to reviews when I bought it, it has much stronger suction than Roomba, so is better for carpet which I still have a lot of (until I remodel). It's not perfect, but the fact that I don't have to do any of the work and yet have CLEAN FLOORS ALL THE TIME makes up for a lot for me! Especially since I have a dog and a little boy who brings the whole sandbox home a couple times a day. The Neato got my carpet much cleaner than my Miele Flamenco canister with Turbo (non-powered brushroll), partly because Neato has stronger suction but maybe more because Neato moves over the floor more slowly than any human pushes a vacuum cleaner. After running Neato every day for a week or so, my carpet was an entirely different color. Neato senses stairs just fine. It uses magnetic strips as barriers, and these work great. It tried to climb the tubular frames of my baby swing and jumpers, so I had to move those for it to clean efficiently. The firmware upgrade may have improved its handling of those items. It's just about my favorite thing I ever bought....See MoreiRobot Roomba anyone?
Comments (28)schoolhouse - Roomba does his thing around furniture or under it it it's raised high enough....think dust bunnies under the bedframe...oh yeah. Around the living room couch, he'll run a line along the couch and hugs it; still some attention is necessary just under the couch where the Roomba doesn't quite reach with his rotating arm. A Roomba (for me at least) isn't a complete replacement of a regular vac., but it keeps the "core" of the room clean and because it's clean, the edges seem to need less of attention too. Some areas that get missed - 90 degree corners don't get Roomba love. Chairs that have too narrow of a base, but ours can usually get in between the legs. Fringe on throw rugs can be a challenge, so those you would need to take up, but ones without fringe are usually not a problem. Our hearth isn't raised for the fireplace and has only a small strip between the hardwood and the slate and I don't really like him getting into the fireplace, so I'll usually set the little "rope off" area that comes with him to keep him from venturing over there and then just supervise him for a few places where I know he tends to get in trouble. Oh, and one of my Roomba's favorite tricks of all is to hide from me right in the middle under the king sized bed (if his battery dies before he's all done)...See MoreLet's Talk Robotic Vacuums Again
Comments (22)I am sorry to say that the eury is being returned. It is a definite fail for us. Pros: VERY quiet, low profile so it fits better under furniture, returns accurately to the base when finished, it doesn’t make annoying sounds like the Neato did, it’s fast, the battery seems very good. Cons: it doesn’t even have enough power to get over a very low threshold from my kitchen to living room (we give it a little boost with our foot and the it goes in a few feet and turns around and goes back into the kitchen. Grrr), it doesn’t have enough power to do the rug well, it’ll zoom right on by a dust bunny and never come back to get it, it has a very small dust bin but it doesn’t need to be emptied as often as it would if it was doing a good job. So, unfortunately, it’s back to the drawing board....See MoreRobotic Vacuums
Comments (6)There have been several posts about robotic vacuums. Here are the results I found. Personally, I've used them for years and prefer the Roomba. I'm not convinced that the rubber rollers on the newer Roomba do as good a job as the brush rollers on carpet. I tend to use my older Roomba (brush rollers) on the carpet, but it doesn't have the suction power of the newer Roomba....See MoreRelated Professionals
