Comments (11)I do what Rhizo does....a local something when I get there. A meal out during the time I am there and a small token something that is personal(such as a piece of a collection, a special snack or treat that we have noted they like, or a picture from somewhere we have been), left on the bed when I leave. My MOST favorite received gift, was a picture frame made for three pictures. One is of me when we were dressed for church, one of DH on his motorcycle, and a third one of a vignette in my home that the lady printed in a special way. All of the pictures had captions printed in gold...and they were wonderful captions I might add. It is lovely that my visitor enjoyed herself enough to send back this beautiful tribute to a wonderful week's visit!!...See MoreGift idea for French host/hostess?
Comments (9)Thanks all! My Colorado friend and I were discussing this long distance today. Now, the Colorado couple does not know any of these people, but they are the kind of folks that take to, and enjoy and develop friendships from just such experiences. As an aside, although they won't attend the actual wedding (father of bride told me the guest list was full ((and quite frankly, that is OK with my Colorado friends))), they will be coming to the next day's post-wedding picnic and gathering in the Beaujolais country, complete with continued partying as guests of our host. (Geeze, these French do continue their parties!). They want also to bring a present to the hosts, as some of you suggested, and I'm sure a card or greeting to the newlyweds. Anyhow, we talked of our respective gifts. I am thinking of bringing some Georgia peach preserves, or vidalia onion chutney, maybe Georgia pecans, etc. Small, easy to tote. A photo of their daughter with us during her internship time sounds good too. (Something consumable, something permanent). My Colorado friend allowed as how they have buffalo products there, as befits the area. She's thinking of some buffalo jerky or other preserved meat. (Heck, I'd like to try Buffalo jerky!). Anyone else have any good ideas what would be Coloradoan? Or Georgian? Or have we hit upon enough ideas to mark the experience adequately?...See MoreThanksgiving?
Comments (37)We will have 30 for Thanksgiving this year! Most will be coming from Alabama with five from Nebraska ! All family this year, and everyone brings something so the host home just provides the place, drinks and whatever else they want to do. I have ordered two locally smoked turkeys and will have tea, wine, sparkling apple juice, etc. Since we have a dinner party on Dec. 1 were going to be decorated for Christmas on Thanksgiving--- usually a no no around here but I'm hoping they will enjoy it a little early this year. We don't have many young kids at the moment, but I will have a craft project ready in case it's raining. After we eat and visit we will all caravan to a local resort to do their lights tour. It's about three miles thru woods and very nicely done. We are getting tickets for everyone as a Thanksgiving favor, and the resort is actually on their way back to Alabama, so it works out well logistically. I think we have some college age cousins who are sleeping over to get up to the city the next day for shopping. I can't wait to see everyone!...See MoreHostess gift ideas quick?
Comments (18)People, no .. we do not give hostess gifts for sleepovers. OMG that would be crazy. From the original post: Question --- hostess gift given that it is Easter? My question was, given that my daughter is sleeping over on Easter Sunday, don't you think a small hostess gift would be nice? To me, it is extraordinarily accommodating to have someone sleepover on a fairly major family holiday. As explained, neither girl lives at home and one is in England so it is very hard to mesh their schedules otherwise I don't think either side would have agreed to it. Frankly I'm not crazy about it myself. Also, I had no free time in my schedule today to bake something, which would have been nice. I ended up getting really cute easter cookies from my local bakery. These are TDF all butter organic, and they are cute and they box them nicely with ribbon. I was lucky they had some extra boxes. Bunny cakes were all pre sold but that might interfere with dessert plans anyway. Cookies are more snack then dessert. My DD also picked up a bouquet of white tulips, then came home and wrapped them in kraft paper and a green and white gingham french wire ribbon we had. They looked sweet. At the same time, I bought some monkey bread for our breakfast tomorrow. And, I am going to a pot luck lunch Monday so I picked up a very cute succulent arrangement for the hostess. So, it's all good!...See MoreBluebell66
