Help - what are these plants and how do I care for them?
Comments (28)the last sev pics it's def Ficus maclellandii, common names Narrow-leaf Fig/Banana Leaf Ficus/willow leaf ficus. 'Alii' and 'Amstel King' are dif cultivars. i think it's alii too. you substrate looks similar to lechuza stuff - it's a special clay aggregate for sub-irrigation. it's german and is widely used in europe. go to their site - and you can read about how it's done. they sell special planters, but the aggregate can be used just by itself too in self-watering system by itself or with soil on top....See MoreWhat type of succulents are these? Comments (3)The top left looks like an Echeveria, and I think the one next to it is too, but I'm not sure. They all need well-draining soil and, if you're growing them indoors, you should probably put them in a south facing windowsill for maximum light. The potting medium should be mostly grainy, like perlite or pumice, no peat moss. Perlite is that white rock that looks like little pieces of styrofoam. I'm not sure about the other ones, but hopefully someone more experienced than me can help you. Good luck!...See MoreWhat kind of succulent is this and how do I care for it??
Comments (4)Not to mention cold hardy… this plant grows even in my garden, which is about as close to hell as you can get… tolerates full hot sun in summer (110F, and 18F in winter, with cold, arid winds. Pretty sure mine will never attain 3' in height, but they are alive and look about as happy as they did at the nursery....See MoreWhat kind of succulant do I have and how do I care for it?
Comments (2)Misting succulents every week as a general advice is not very helpful -:( - not your fault but store employee. It needs to be in container with drainage holes (I can't tell if yours has them or not). It should be potted in fast draining mix - what I see looks like peat with very little perlite in it. Simple and better mix you can make is 50/50 mix of Cactus & Succulent soil and sifted/rinsed perlite. It should be watered when potting mix is almost completely dry - use bamboo skewer or chopstick to check it. It needs as much light as possible but should be acclimatized to it if it was in darker spot. This is what just about all succulents need....See Morek8 (7b, NJ)
