Immersion blenders--what's worthwhile, what's needless expense?
Comments (22)I have the KA with all the attachments, and I have to say that for me, it's just okay. It's certainly powerful and reliable and all that, but there are certain things about the attachments that don't suit me, but may not be an issue for you. For instance, the blade in the chopper has a fairly high clearance from the floor of the container, so it's not much good for nuts or herbs or other small items. I don't love mine nearly as much as I had expected to do, but a lot of that is just because of the way I cook. I don't make many thick soups, for instance, so while it's splendid for those as others here have said, that doesn't matter much to me. I think I only paid about $69 for mine from amazon, though--KA regularly has a biggish discount once or twice a year (usually after the holidays, alas), and then there was some kind of limited time amazon special running, too. But they are often available for less than retail, although never during holiday gift season....See MoreImmersion blenders only work for cool foods?
Comments (17)Mustangs - Very nice organization!!!!!! You even are set up to take a picture and embed it in your text. I am impressed! I e-mailed Braun, but they haven't gotten back to me. I decided to return the unit anyway - it seemed awkward to hold over a pot, (it looks more like a blender than a stick) and I really didn't need all the attachments. I'll get one of the ones that have been mentioned above, if I can still find them in the stores. Barbara...See MoreImmersion Blender
Comments (22)Mine is Cuisinart cordless, and it separated into three sections. The bottom section can go into the DW, and the top part separates for recharging and contains a retractable plug so that there is not a separate attachment for charging. It has no other attachments. I bought it for DM on a visit, and she said she never used it, and so I took it back with me and also take it with me when I visit her. I use it for puréeing tomatoes (still in the can!) and also for smoothing sauces on the stove. Since it is cordless, it is very easy to use on the stove. I also use it for puréeing soups, and I find it much more convenient to use than the FP for this purpose. I used to spill hot soup trying to get it into and out of the FP. Also, it would slosh around in the FP, and I have much more control with the stick blender. I make a lot of sauces and soups, and so it gets plenty of use. I seldom use it to make drinks or mayo - I use the blender for that. I do use the stick blender much more often than the regular blender, however, and it is mounted on the wall above my stove. I originally thought that the battery operated one would not have enough power, but this is not the case at all. In fact, it is more powerful than the old Braun stick blender that I had for 20 years. I only started using the cordless one when the Braun died. Lars...See MoreImmersion blenders, anyone?
Comments (24)I really would like one which has an on switch that doesn't need holding in while using Well, you know, I can't help but guess that for the most part those have more powerful motors, since they know you can't hold on long enough to burn them out. I would expect an on/off switch motor to be correspondingly less powerful since you could let it run for a very long time....See Morelocaleater
