Can anyone tell me anything about this dinnerware?
Comments (6)My pleasure, glad to be of help. I normally visit this website to learn. Didn't realized that I could be of help this time. By the way, I forgot to mention that this tea set is usually Made in China and is made of porcelain. You may find this same design with various shapes of the cup, tray (dish) and teapot. However, the set you have is the most popular. Even if it doesn't worth ($$) very much, it's worth keeping it if you drink tea. It is considered as a traditional tea set and in some way, it is also a collectible set. In China, different type of tea is recommended to use with different type of teapotware. ie: Oolong tea is recommended to use with Yixing teapots, a purple clay found only in Yixing, China. Green tea is recommended to use with porcelain or ceramic teaware. Since it's porcelain, hand wash this set only. If you don't know much about porcelain, it is lighter than ceramic. It retains heat longer. It is strong but easily chip. Enjoy it!...See MorePottery Barn Dinnerware
Comments (30)When we were down to TWO bowls in our everyday dish set I started looking for something new. I found (surprise!) Christmas dishes that don't look very Christmassy, a Southern Living product produced in conjunction with Ballard Designs. They were inexpensive to begin with, and after the post holiday sale price AND a coupon, I think I got three sets of four place settings for what one cost originally. They are mostly white with a spray of greenery across the plate or bowl and the name of the plant in red script. I absolutely love them, and my meandering point is not to look in the obvious places for your dishes :-)...See MoreDurable white dinnerware...aspen or corelle?
Comments (19)Even the old Corelle would shatter into slivers. I can remember mom and I staring in disbelief when one shattered. The pieces kept popping like Mexican jumping beans and we were left with a mess. This was over 40 years ago. I like some of the ideas posted above. I was just reading my DW manual - not even sure why. I saw something interesting. They recommend allowing plates to cool to avoid chipping. That being said - I usually don't and have not chipped my Villeroy and Boch porcelain in 2O years. (Knock on wood). DH broke one 6 inch bowl. I use them for e ymy everyday dishes but cost would keep me from using with kids on a regular basis. The key is porcelain is stronger than pottery I also have WS pantry. It is heavy. What is nice is it is oven safe and was reasonably priced. I only have 6 servings. I use it in my speed oven all of the time More recently I bought 24 serving of World Market. It is less expensive and lighter but can't tell you how it will hold up. I got tired of buying paper plates for parties and decided the return on investment was worth it. Also guests are less likely to spill or drop a plate of food....See MoreDinnerware...can you recommend that doesn't get hot in Microwave
Comments (11)On the one hand, I agree that Fiestaware is great in the microwave. On the other hand, I have just a few pieces, and they take up a huge amount of room in the DW because they are thick, so I don't think I'd get an entire set. I had a bad experience with Corelle, and because of that, will not buy it, though I know people love it. I dropped a Corelle dish, and it shattered into a million razor-sharp shards. Could have easily taken out an eye. This issue with Corelle has been discussed on Houzz Forums before if you want to do a search. Ikea 365+ is very nice white dinnerware that is microwave safe, is incredibly low-priced for the quality--it's feldspar porcelain--and is flat enough to fit between the DW tines easily. While stoneware (which Ikea also sells) looks nice, in my experience it chips easily, while porcelain is more durable. I also personally like dinnerware with rims because it keeps contents like sauces and juices from sloshing out, especially if you are lifting it out of a microwave. Ikea makes other more colorful microwave-safe dinnerware too. You can mix and match, and it's all so inexpensive, that if you break one, it's just a shrug.
