Okay, after this dream I KNOW I need a mental vacation!
Comments (9)Good luck with the exam...the same thing has TOTALLY happened to me before too - I had spent the day studying with intermittent procrastination breaks on GW...when I finally went to bed at 3am, I had vivid dreams in which I was this overlord person, controlling a billion different culture requirements for the orchids at this computer, adjusting light, humidity, temperature, etc..and all these judges named after GW aliases were observing me and making sure I was doing everything perfectly. When I was younger, I would have this reoccuring dream after helping my mom buy bulbs in the fall...I would be at this amusement park playing games and winning tokens, which I would use at this huge vending machine that had every possible bulb you could think of...there were billions of buttons, each with it's own neat little picture of the bulb, the flower, the name and the cost. Things like crocuses would be really cheap, but things like amaryllis would cost a whole bunch of tokens...and I would always win the jackpot so I could choose any bulb I wanted....See MoreYard long beans - harvest before vacation ??
Comments (9)"...Will I have an unknown yard long next year if I save seeds from the beans I am growing this year? That depends. They will certainly cross in such close proximity; but if you only want to save a few pods of each variety for next year, it should be fairly easy. "Taiwan Black" and "Liana" bloom close to the same time, with "Red Noodle" much later. Don't know about the Wally's asparagus bean, but I'm guessing it will bloom about the same time as "Liana". You might try blossom bagging, where you tie a bag of breathable material (such as bridal veil, or spun polyester row cover) over the buds which will open the next day. It should be large enough to prevent bees from reaching the flowers. Remove the bags in two days, pinch off all other buds on that stem, and mark the stem with a string. With this method, you can save seeds from several varieties at once. Or... on any given day, observe the buds which will open the next day. When the variety you want to save has several buds, put a string around the stem(s). Then pinch off the large next-day buds from all the others, so the chosen variety is the only one open next day - be sure not to miss any, or your seed will not be pure. You can do this several days in succession, with a different variety each day. For either of these methods, tie the string well (so birds will not steal it) but not so tightly around the stem that it restricts growth. Watch the marked blossoms for small beans forming - if too many blossoms fall off, continue until you have the number of pods you wish to save. Allow only the marked pods to mature for seed. And DL, I've tried all of the beans you mentioned except the Wally's... the flavors of each are quite different. You will probably want to harvest the "Taiwan Black" at an earlier stage than the others, because the very long pods grow & develop fiber quickly. At less than 1/4" width, they will still be almost 2 feet long! Dennis, outside of wholesalers, there are few commercial sources of non-GMO soybeans for processing. Several heirloom seed companies have offered them, but two of them (Horus Botanicals & Peace Seeds) have recently closed. Synergy Seeds has offered many soybeans in the recent past; if you contact George through his website, he may still have some available. Sourcepoint Organic Seeds (no website) offers several soybeans, and if you tell him how you intend to process them, might be able to give some recommendations... he does charge for his catalog, though. Or... I could send you samples of several varieties to try. Of the 60+ soybean varieties I currently offer, about half are processing types. I have not personally tested them for all applications, but they are mostly high-protein selections (some over 50%) and one of them should do well for you. Comments (37)Thank you justgotabeme! It is true, we find ourselves in the FRONT of the house quite often! The first evening, we poured cocktails and just sat out front and stared. We are very pleased! CEfreeman-Ohhh, what a long, peaceful country driveway that is! I wouldn't want it to look too "maintained!" Hi Lyfia! I posted quite awhile ago, I was very gung ho on the faux wood grain...as a matter of fact, I wanted to do a faux carriage door look, adding the rustic hardware. Most people were against it...and this was when I was planning on painting my house a dark color. Now that my house is so light, I don't want a big dark expanse that takes up such a huge chunk of the front. If my house were bigger, or the paint darker,I would consider it. I do love that look, just not for this house at this time. birdlover-yes, we are thinking two big black pots on either side of the arch...and maybe on the far side of the garage...with bougainvilla or some flowering vine set on a trellis just a bit off from the house walls so they don't actually grow on the walls! The reason we are thinking black pots is...when you drive to our house, you first see the south side of it...with a row of windows with black awnings over each window. So we feel the big black pots will tie the side and the front together. lukkiriish-thank you, I just love those california spanish homes! Thanks for comparing my home to one of those! Ok, again, I really appreciate every single comment. It has been so much work and money and as much as my hubby and I enjoy it, it is nice to see it be well received here!...See MoreHome from Vacation, now I am ready to have a vacation:)
Comments (8)(The following is a message from DH the computer nerd about those that are having trouble with the video on the website) For those that are having trouble loading or watching the video, first let the whole video download before pushing the play button. The second is that you might need the newest version of quicktime. Thank you for all the comments. We left again this morning at 8:20 to go and watch my nephew play baseball an hour away. We then met my mom and 2 of my sisters and 2 nephews at the park and had chicken at the park and let the kids play. The also brought my baby Hayden back to me. My sis had his hair cut ( it was in his eyes and I gave her the okay) he looks like a big boy now. Of course today and tonight he wouldn't let me out if his sight, I sure missed my little baby ( not so little at 25 pounds at 11 months) Rhiannon declared yesterday that she couldn't be 5 until she had a birthday cake. So my mom made an angel food cake and brought it down so Rhiannon could turn 5:) Growing up my grandma always made us an angel food cake for our birthdays. We have continued the tradition with my mom and my kids and nephews. Stacie who went all day today again and still needs to do laundry...See MorePanaViz
