Yes, it crashes regularly, but I don't have any trouble with it loading. Luckily, when it does crash, it remembers what I was doing and re-loads the windows/tabs that I had open. It's very annoying!

No problems here, but one solution would be to try going back to an earlier version. Maybe like 45? Uninstall Firefox, then using Internet Explorer, Google for Older Versions of Firefox. You'll find them on the Mozilla site, pick one and install it.

Alternatively, uninstall what you have and then, using Internet Explorer, find the latest version and reinstall it. That could fix the problem if caused by corrupt files.

Two cautions if using an earlier version-

- You'll get frequent notices to update. Ignore them

- Earlier versions may have some security risks that have been corrected in later versions. Nothing I would worry about myself but that's your decision to make.

I've rolled back Firefox a time or two when it seemed a new version was having problems.

Do you have the latest version? I sometimes have trouble with it not loading and have to switch to chrome, which is a bit better. People always say to clear your cookies, etc, but that never does a thing for my problems. I do sometimes have good luck if I "Quit" firefox instead of just closing it. And rebooting the whole computer seems to help sometimes, too. Often when I'm having lots of problems there will be a new version release a week or two later, too, as others are having problems.

Repeat question: Do you have the latest version? I have 50.0. No problems here. Sometimes just a Shut down/Restart will "fix" a problem.

Yes! And it's driving me slightly bonkers! It's not crashing. It's taking forever to load sites. I'm no novice when it comes to computers so, as one might suspect, I've been in, around and through this PC with a fine toothed comb trying to identify and eradicate/correct whatever is causing the problem. I've loaded and unloaded FF v. 50.0 and am currently resting in v.49.0...which once appeared to be the stablest of the later versions. Initially...this whole problem seemed to start with v.49.2. Even FF blog posters complained of delayed uploadings...and the arrival of v.50. was supposed to correct the problem. Hasn't done so on my end.

Originally...I thought it might be my ISP...but I've cleared them of any involvement. Then MS and Adobe provided some current updates that were supposed to resolve this issue when it involved their programs. I don't know if they helped or hindered...but they didn't fix the problem.

All I can suggest at this point is to ride out the storm. Perhaps a few more days will correct the problem. I may give v.50 a try again. Personally...I suspect it's caused by the newest encryption code that FF is using...but I can't prove that. It's just a gut feeling. I, also, think that most future programs are going to be geared towards MS 10 and that may be why those systems aren't experiencing this particular problem. Incidentally...I'm operating MS 7.1 with no current intention of upgrading.

If I have any success reversing the problem on my end...I'll post about it.

My FF 50.0 is running fine. There was an update a couple days ago.

Be sure to clear the cache.

Yes, Firefox was giving me fits yesterday. When I switched to Chrome all was well. I have not been on my laptop yet today.

Progress report ~ I reloaded FF v. 50. and along with another adjustment...there's been a marked improvement. The adjustment was turning off Window's Defender. I'm not criticizing the program. I had activated it some time ago...for a temporary protection while I was doing some system work...and forgot that I'd done so. My poor system was suffering from a rampant case of security overload. :-) Between my own selected anti-malware/anti-exploit programs, the security features of FF and an over protective ISP...it's a wonder anything loaded. Thus...use my experience as a word to the wise. All the user warnings that we all read about having too much protection...with competing programs...are valid. I hadn't meant to do it...but it happened because I lost track of my own cautionary acts. Now that I've retired Defender...my system seems much happier and it's running quite smoothly. May it continue! :-)

No need to be apologetic about Windows Defender, it's a sub par product. Worse, PCs should have only one security system running at a time, having multiple ones will often cause interference with performance.

Users will gain and lose nothing by ditching Windows Defender and relying solely on a top rated security program AND thoughtful internet user practices.

I have the latest version of FireFox and for the past 5 months, I, too, have been crashing maybe once in three to four days. I have noticed that a goodly percentage of my crashes have been associated with my HP inkjet printer.

Examples follows of conditions that has brought on crashes. These crashes do not always happen immediately with the printer problem. Sometimes, its a downhill slide with a few operations after the printer problem.

1. You start the process to print a page and when the print panel pops up, in the properties section, you try to change from landscape to portrait or vice versa. The print job fails and FireFox crashes soon afterward, or the printer will not print anymore, or stays stuck in the landscape mode.

2. You do a CTRL P to print a web page and then decide to stop the print job by pressing the red X in the printer. The printer may no longer work, or if you try to change the print mode, you get the message, "not all printer functions available".

Once a print failure has occurred, turning the printer off and back on will not cure the situation. One has to do a "restart" or reboot of the computer. Sometimes, dumping FireFox and using a different browser may work without a reboot.

Hmmmm, Jem. I, too, have had the same printer issues you cite with my Canon Pixma but never connected the problem to my browser issues. Very interesting. My printer is growing a gray beard so I attributed its crankiness to that. I made sure that it had the most current driver available for my system and spoke kindly to it while utilizing its Utility app to scan the printer for problems. Oddly enough, none ever showed up other than to point to the default printer setting... XPS rather than plain ole MG5200. Since removing Defender I've had a couple of small print jobs and now that you've mentioned this quirk...I must say that the printer engaged immediately and there was no hesitation about completing the print job as ordered. Is it possible that FF changed the default settings on my printer and that's what's been causing this problem???

I don't keep my printer "On" when it's not in use because it's used so rarely and I gave some thought to whether that might be part of my problem...but I think not. I never had to reboot my computer to get my printer back up and running. In my case...just re-opening the program and confirming the default setting seemed to correct the problem. But we have different printers so that might account for that anomaly.

Programs like browsers don't directly interface with printers - that's the job of the operating system. Unless the browser is passing along something funky in the print job that the printer doesn't know how to handle but that's not common. When you try to print from a different program or a different browser, is the behavior different?

If it worked fine before and not now, I'm going to point an accusing finger at either the PC or the printer.

PS - updating drivers isn't a good practice as a general rule, it's unnecessary. If things are working fine together as is (which is the job that drivers perform) there's no value a new driver can add and, sometimes, problems can result. Don't fix what isn't broken.
