Comments (25)Sam this is the kind of rose every rosarian dreams about - more blooms than leaves, with such vibrant color and healthy leaves. Straw and Sam - How much rain are you getting, and what are your highest temps now - that yesterday was summer solstice for you? (and winter solstice for me and yes, now I can feel it is winter at last) Are there any differences over where you are Khalid?...See MoreTwilight Zone and Pretty Lady roses
Comments (43)In my yard, Pretty Lady Rose is a good front yard rose. For me, it handles the heat well, but it does get a lot of shade. It is also handling the shade well too (but it's very hot here - with dry heat - so that may be different elsewhere). It has really healthy foliage though and lots of blooms! Not strongly fragrant, but it is fragrant and it's a nice classic rose fragrance....See MoreTwilight Zone, Burgundy Ice or Forever Royal?
Comments (29)Thanks, all of you, but I bet I'm in trouble with LL, and I'm sorry the purples didn't work out. I need to clarify that Ascot is a wine red, not true purple like TZ and ET. It's also very hard to get the correct color of Ascot in photos. Since we're all purple obsessed, here are a few more photos to illustrate how difficult is to get a true color in a photo of Ascot. Diane This is fairly close to true, but not quite. Ascot is too purple, but Ebb Tide in the corner is the correct color. Who knows why. This is the correct color for Ascot, and this photo was taken in the back yard where my second Ascot grows. So you can see that Ascot is not purple....See MoreBlack Baccara or Twilight Zone?
Comments (9)Black Baccara has never been hardy for me in zone 5 and I love the deeply black red roses. Twilight Zone is hardy for me, though never as gorgeous as Diane's pictures, and indeed more purple than dark red. If you're looking for a reliably dark red rose in zone 5, LavaGlut is by far your best option. The blooms are small but it's hardy even in my zone 4 pocket. Another winner would be AC Navy Lady that High Country Roses sells. Peggy Rockefeller has also been nicely hardy but it failed last year and Roses Unlimited doesn't have it again this year. Preference is pretty dark and fairly hardy, as is Veteran's Honor. Nigrette has been reasonably hardy in my zone 6 pocket though it's a short scrawny bush. Cynthia...See MoreUser
