As someone who works with grieving families, you are a treasure.

Thank you everyone for your kindness. Today we are taking over the sweet potato casserole and five pounds of meatloaf for the funeral meal. They are in the oven baking. They are expecting a large crowd for the meal. There are several fixing food this morning and taking.

I can tell Sue is a genuine good, kind person just by her willingness to help others and her sweet disposition. Kudos to you Marilyn, we need more people like you.

I wanted to give her one of my colored pictures and I looked through them all and did not see any that I though she would want at that time, so I looked through several of my coloring books and when I saw the prayer, I thought it to be perfect. I then colored it over a few days here and there.

Marilyn Sue, that was so very kind of you and now you know how much your friend and her husband appreciated it. So often, we don't know what to say or do when people are ill or dying so we do nothing; you've just shown us all that a simple gesture like sending a card or taking a few minutes to make a phone call would mean the world to someone who is going through a difficult time.

First, I smiled at your post title. Second, I'm not very surprised, but very happy to read of the kindness you show, MSue. There are so few of us now (not I, sadly,) who take the time and effort to do what you have done. I'm really glad your friend's husband let you know how much your letters and picture meant to his wife. You are inspiring!!

Today at church, her husband thanked all the women and everyone that helped fix food for the church meal and he also thanked every one for their get well cards and then he thanked me for the cards, letters and the Serenity Prayer I had sent her. He said the note and the prayer were the last things she had received that she got to see. He also had brought the framed prayer and had it on display at the church. I was touched by all of that.

And your effort got some publicity, which may encourage and inspire others to consider how to be similarly thoughtful and generous, especially to folks who are undergoing serious trauma, e.g. near death.

Plus, as others have said, many find it difficult to know what to do or say, so miss out on the opportunity.
