Is there any furniture under the windows? If you have dressers under or a bed in front of a window, it makes a difference in what to use. I have dressers under two regular sized windows, and so I did not have the curtains go to the floor, and I have them open to one side because I made them out of chenille (for restricting light), and they are therefore a bit heavy. If you have light or sheer fabric, you can have them open in the middle, but if they go to the floor, I might reconsider.

I have 2 bedrooms about the same size as yours. I have Levelor inside mount pull-down shades with a valance at the top in both. One is room-darkening since it is occasionally used as a guest room; the other (my sewing room) is light-diffusing.

I know this doesn't answer your curtain question, but it's another option you could consider instead of curtains.

Is there a reason for only using one panel for each window? You could mount your curtain rod a bit proud of the edges of the window, and have the panels hang to just brush the window trim, leaving the glass itself fully revealed and the windows may appear a bit larger.

If you close the panel at night for room darkening, you could still close only one, or bring both leading edges to the middle to close them.

They are... 3x6ft? I'm not on the property atm, we are moving soon. So, no furniture will be under/in front of them.

I'm using one because one is enough to effectively block out all the light for when the children sleep. I had thought about two, but in a room that's 10x10, to have 4 panels...it seems like overkill.

Mydogs THANK YOU! I could NOT find pictures for some reason! The window essentially looks like this, except we have drywall returns rather than moulding. So, should I mount the rod unevenly, or "proud" of both sides of the window- or does that look funny?

I like the look of Lars' better....I don't think it looks good tied in the middle,

I just used a valance and a shade in rooms where children were. I needed there to be nothing a child could attempt to climb or pull down and have control of the light when putting children to bed.
