Disease Profile: the viral Rose Rosette Disease (RRD)
Comments (3)If one of the wild roses has an immunity against the virus, it may be possible that grafting ornamental roses to that wild rose (used as understock) may transfer the immunity. "if silenced rootstock can efficiently transmit the silencing signal to non-transformed scions, as has already been demonstrated in herbaceous plants." This article is talking about adding genetically modified RNAi-eliciting constructs to normal rootstocks, but it should also work if a wild rose already has the proper RNAi. See the review below. Comments (4)Ann, the virus has been found in Bossier City (just about on I-20). http://bestofswla.com/2015/12/03/witchs-broom/ "Bossier shares most aspects of its climate with its sister city of Shreveport. The city has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa) with hot, humid summers and mild winters. During the warmer months, the city is prone to severe thunderstorms which feature heavy rain, high winds, hail, and occasional tornadoes. The city has a slightly above average rate of tornadoes when compared to the US average.[15] Due to the flat topography of the city and the prominence of smaller waterways that are prone to backwater flooding from the Red River, the city occasionally experiences severe flooding events. A notable occurrence of severe flooding occurred in March 2016 after torrential rains caused a rapid rise of many local waterways, displacing upwards of 3500 people from their homes across the area.[16][17] Freezing and ice storms occasionally occur during the winter months." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bossier_City,_Louisiana...See MoreRose rosette disease vs Roundup damage
Comments (4)Yes, I’d say RRD, too. The photos show what I’d call classic symptoms. I am so sorry! I had to remove RRD roses at my parents’ place. To be cautious, I saturated the plants in hair spray before removing them and bagging them for disposal. Carol...See MoreIs this rose rosette disease?
Comments (19)It really looks like every branch on that rose is infected, so I don't think that would be a good solution, it would be very temporary anyway. I also don't want to disguise the issue if I can get hold of someone who can actually take those out. There is a long line of roses there, and they probably all need to be watched for several years. I did at least make a report at the roserosette.org website, and I found out who used to own the property, (a brick and tile company, the roses border a quarry) though they have recently gone out of business. (I was wrong about his apparently, the land is just for sale) Someone is still taking care of that land, the grass is well kept, so I just need to find out who....See MoreThanh Kieu
