Dwarf Citrus not looking good after potting (pic)
Comments (6)Hot Arizona sun for most of the day is probably too much for a plant that young. Move it out of the direct sun and into bright light with some early morning sun then see if the leaves perk up. Is the soil mix draining? When you say you didn't over water does that mean you gave it very little water? Perhaps too little? The water should have run through the mix and out of the pot. When I bring home a new plant I never repot it first thing unless it absolutely needs it. I do however check the soil mix to see if it needs water and what condition it is in and look to see if any roots are showing. If the plant needs repotting but its not absolutely urgent, I let it acclimate to its new surroundings for at least a week before doing anything. This keeps the plant from getting too many shocks at once....See MoreEasier potting mix for citrus?
Comments (18)keodark, if you find that "miracle" potting mix, please let us all know, lol! Seriously, there just isn't anything out there that will fit your requirements. But, I understand trying to use the KISS method. I don't have the time to mix my own container mix, either, and, here in S. Calif, I need something that is actually more water retentive than gritty mix or 511 mix. Farfad's is probably your best choice, but I can't find it anywhere in my area, sadly. So, my next choice is EB Stone's Cactus Mix, which is got fir bark in it ( Fir Bark, Lava Rock, Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss, Sand, Redwood Compost and Mushroom Compost to be exact.) So far, my container citrus are doing exceptionally well in it. I've even brought a few abused citrus back to life in it. Fertilizing - you have to fertilize container citrus even more frequently than in-ground citrus. I use the new Osmocote Plus, which has a decent N-P-K ratio for citrus plus the micros, and I also will fertilize with a small amount of regular citrus fertilizer (Gro Power Citrus & Avocado Food) every 3 months during the growing season, too. Citrus are pretty heavy feeders, really needing nitrogen, so if you want to grow citrus in containers, and keep it as carefree as possible, this is what I do, and so far, it's working very well. I anticipate I'll need to re-pot in a few years, maybe 3 or 4 if I'm lucky, since I have my citrus in a little larger containers than some of the really serious container citrus growers on our forum, but I can do this because I'm not moving my citrus in and out for weather reasons. They just sit on my patio all year 'round. So, saves me a few re-potting sessions. Before: One year later: Before (this was a very coveted, rare citrus, I about had a cow when it came to me in this condition:) About 2 months later: Patty S....See Moremiricle grow cactus, palm, and citrus potting mix

Comments (3)Cody, I'm not sure if your mix is a good one since I'm not familiar with mushroom compost, but I'll tell you what works well for me in Zone 7 (I'm in Upstate SC). I use the 5-1-1 mix, well a slightly modified version of it. Five parts of triple ground pine bark, one part of perlite, and one part of spaghnum moss. The bark comes from a local nursery. I buy a scoop, which is a good load in my little truck, and it lasts for a few years. I add a cup of dolomitic lime to a wheelbarrow of the mix. I do modify it by adding one part of composted cow manure that I get, by the truckload, from a local farmer. Your mix may work great, but you can consider this one if you see the need to change. This mix drains well and has good aeration....See MoreVladimir (Zone 5b Massachusetts)
