skype is beautiful! I have it on my computer. My sisters have it on theirs. One lives in Germany, the other in Australia. My niece in France has it, my daughter in ABQ has it, and the list goes on and on.

When I am on my computer, and wish to talk with someone via skype, I turn skype on. One of my sisters works skype the same, the other has hers set up to turn on, when she turns her computer on. The latter sis sometimes tells us, she doesn't have time to talk... which is exactly why I only turn skype on, when I want to talk.

My aussie sis calls me sometimes, when she wants to talk, and if we are both home, we turn the computer/skype on, and visit for FREE.

Yes, skype is FREE, when you use it from computer to computer.

You can have a skype account, and call from your computer to a phone. According to my aussie sis (she does it that way often) it is way cheaper than calling from the phone.

Sometimes when the connection is not good, we turn the video off, and it usually improves. However, we really love to see each other, and love it even more, when two of us sister are together and then we visit with the third.

You said that you do not have WiFi you must have an Internet connection it doesn't have to be WiFi just a good connection with good speed and reliable . You can set it up on your computer or laptop . There are others yes but Skype is best known . You just install it like any other program or app.

There is another free app, Whatsapp, that you can use to text people in other countries. I have a child living in Germany and one in Asia and I keep in touch with skype and whatsapp. Skype takes some planning, when you both have time to sit and talk for an hour or so. With whatsapp, I can send them a free text at any time. Also, facebook has a free calling app similar to skype. Oh, you can also make free international phone calls with whatsapp, and I think you can also use that feature on facebook

You'll need a camera and mic for your computer too. Laptops sometimes have a built in camera/mic. We got our camera for about $15 at Wal Mart.

Whatsapp also has a "phone call" feature.

With Talkatone, you can get a phone number in a US area code that people can call directly as a local call. On the receiving end, it rings the smartphone just like a Skype call, either over the data connection or using Wifi and it's free. I've had two kids abroad, just one now, but having a local phone number to do a free call is very easy. For originated calls going in the other direction, the costs are similar to Skype calls to a telephone.

I forgot my password several years ago and Skype would not allow me to change the password used with my old address nor open a new account. We use Facetime or Whatsapp now.
