November blooms
Comments (52)That's good to hear especially since I know I sent pretty small pieces! I've started a couple cuttings too to see if the old mama roots are just tired or if the cuttings are so slow too. If memory serves, I don't think I've ever been able to get the hard peat ball off of the roots though they grew past that. Could still be a bottleneck in circulation there, IDK. If the cuttings start growing much faster than the mama, maybe I'll turn the whole thing into cuttings & kind of start over....See MoreMacrophylla buds open up in November
Comments (3)If the stems are still alive and you winter protect them well, the plant could leaf out again in Spring. No guarantees of course but I am more concerned about the flower buds though. They tend to occur at the end of the stems and they are sort of invisible this time of the year so it is hard to tell if the temperature fluctuations are fooling the plant into blooming also; hope not. I had something similar happen to me about 3-4 years ago. The temperatures stayed warm well into December and then the bottom fell out. We got almost a week of freezing temperatures. The old/new leaves got zapped but returned back in Spring. The flower buds did not. I think I counted a total of two blooms from the Mac's that year. Covering the bushes is probably a good idea but covering the plants when the temperatures are in the 60s will not force the plants to go dormant. They may even resist it and try to continue in "growth" mode until the amount of sunlight, reduced fertilizer levels, much lower temperatures and reduced moisture levels convince them to go dormant. Feel free to try though. Perhaps you can also winter protect a few days before the weather forecast says there is a big drop in temperatures?...See MoreEriostemma flowers. Comments (3)Jan, they look like pictures in a catalogue they're so gorgeous. I don't have any eriostemma bloom pix to share but the Hoya Ruthie cutting I bought from you this summer is growing beautifully. God willing, next year I can post a picture of the baby of the one you posted above....See MoreSharing October blooms & buds. PLease feel free to add.
Comments (60)Gorgeous blooms everybody, some spectacular photography too! Can a Hoya cousin join the party? I posted this separately but it got buried quickly. Ceropegia woodii variation The leaves of above are a bit different that normal, arrow shaped & veined, not mottled like the other. But check out the blooms Sorry for the glare, that purple fuzz are hairs, like filaments. So strange. Here's the shot that shows them at their other-worldly best!...See MoreJan Sword-Rossman Realty 239-470-6061
