My bet is 90% as bad sucker growth if planted perfectly. It just seems to be the nature of the beast. What you should do? I dunno. Packing dirt around them would be a temptation. Many trees live like this a long time in nature near streams and lakes. Replant? Probably not. I have a Bradford type from the previous owners. If several of my larger trees had not required removal it would be gone now. Guess I am shell/chainsaw shocked lol. I just can't kill another! Now that said, my "right" to complain when my neighbor plants bamboo or zoysia near my fescue has been limited by my own decision to keep this invasive stinky mess until the snow or wind removes its blight from my zip code. damn Post Tree Removal Disorder lol.

Bad cboice for a number of reasons. It is essentially a narrower Bradford and I believe was formerly known as Cleveland Select. It is invasive in my state. You should check yours. 90% will die from breaking apart in the wind and becoming unattractive. Plant it where the maximum height and spread will not drop on on any cars or structures which can be damaged by it. Seems fireblight is becoming more of an issue now we have planted millions of Callery Pear family clones of what, 4 lines? Oh, and not next to walk ways or where people are going to be because the flowers, and they do flower nicely, the flowers have a urine like odor. The one the previous owners left me does.

MY property in particular is literally infested with them. If I go back in time on google earth I can see how with in 10 years an empty field became full of 10 - 20 foot tall Bradford pears. They are extremely hard to get rid of, and their terrible gnarly thorny limbs makes cutting them really difficult. They spread like privet, sending up new trees from their root system. I cut several down and treated the stumps only to find new growth sprouting from the stumps! One tree which I cut down still had a tiny bit of bark attached to the stump and the fallen section was still alive and well! In fall the migrating birds eat the fruit and where ever they poop a new tree pops up. Even pulling a 1 inch sprout is difficult because it forms a long cork screw tap root. I'm not sure how I'm going to ever eradicate them from my land. I have one acre that has literally 1 tree per square foot. I would rank this tree with private and kudzu in it's ability to take over and completely displace other native trees. I hate them soon much!!!! Thorny menace.

why, with the enormous range of fabulous small trees available for our delight, would anyone choose to grow one species only? Lack of imagination or interest - most property owners are not hobbyist gardeners - and a belief that formal effects like shearing of trees and shrubs, planting rows of one kind are sophisticated. Also some are wary of plants they haven't already seen having been proven to be able to grow and persist in their area. I can see some basis for this as both warehouse store plant departments and independent garden centers in my area do stock a lot of marginally hardy or outright tender plants which are often displayed among more cold tolerant kinds, thereby seeming to imply that they are all suitable for year around outdoor use of indefinite duration. And speaking of warehouse store plant departments, with their tiny range of plant varieties - those operations now have a large percentage of the US nursery stock sales. I have seen post after post on the internet referring to these as "the nursery". Plus in the current market trees are moving so slowly I wonder why any of the large independent outlets here are bothering to stock any kind of a range or quantity of them. And in fact one of the bigger operations in the area did apparently cut way back on these, so that for at least a few years now their "tree line" has been this little area like is routinely seen at warehouse stores.
