First, can you post a pic of said "paddle plant"? Are you referring to Kalanchoe Thyrisiflora? Also known as a 'flapjack/pancake plant'? If so... It is not a lowlight plant, requires lots of sun. Since it has been in a dark environment you will need to take it to bright diffuse light (preferably outside) and let it re-acclimate for at least a week. Then move it to full sun. I would not consider this a suitable indoor plant - most certainly not for the conditions you describe in your bathroom. Because you said "and the leaves are drying up" I think you may benefit from reading another post I recently responded to. When I firstl saw it, my immediate thought was that some kind of sap-sucking insect had gotten it because of the way the leaves curl inward, and the pattern of the necrotic tissue. I am NOT experienced with succulent diseases; I have only minimal experience with insect infeststions of any kind, and I don't know your species at all, but since the other posters aren't entirely confident in their diagnosis, maybe it would be a good idea to get a very close look at it for tiny insects. If it were mine, I'd use a magnifying glass because some pests are essentially invisible to the naked eye. You can also hold a white piece of paper under it and give it a sharp tap to knock pests into the paper where they're more visible. I flick plants with my index finger. Thrips come to mind, but part of the reason I thought of them was the blotching, but I didn't know that was normal for your plant. As I said, I lack sufficient experience. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check. A mixture of dish soap, water, and alcohol in a spray bottle is often enough to get rid of pests. It isn't harmful the plant (just wash it down, don't get it in the soil), so you have nothing to lose.

Hello there to the Cactus Board We don't post on this forum, but saw Kim's post and repost. Our son bought this plant with the same care instructions at the Home Depot. We also scratched our heads reading the care instructions. What the grower means is if there is any stem between the new top growth that you clipped off and the large leaves, cut the stem back to the large top leaves. IOW, don't leave a "stick" at the top of the specimen. That said, we wouldn't prune it either. It's young. Don't know your growing conditions. Once a week may be frequent watering depending on conditions. You may want to cut back if the plant isn't properly light and warm. Another possibility: we find some Home Depot plants are not acclimated down to home environment conditions. They tend to back slide until they can adjust to your conditions. Stand your ground with good care and let the plant get ugly for awhile. You may be doing everything right. The bottom leaves will probably dry up and fall off. New growths will appear just above the old leaf sites. Then you know you are doing right by your new purchases. Hope that helps! CV I have 2 paddle plants indoors. I water them once a week, draining all the water out. I fertilize once a month. My poor plants are drooping and pitiful looking and I can't figure out why! They came with a little instruction card stuck in the soil and I do not understand one of the instructions.- "Continuing care-Remove two top leaves and cut stem back to top of remaining leaves to encourage new growth at base and to maintain shape." Why would I cut the top leaves? That's new growth! And how do you cut the stem back?? I'm confused and my poor plants are suffering! TIA- Kim

I think they can also be called desert cabbage. Anyway, when they were separate and in tiny pots, the Kalanchoes leaves flopped. I watered it and it recovered in hours. Now, in a pot together I can't directly water it. Tried putting a straw in and watering but that was yesterday and it still hasn't recovered. Heres it looking all floppy. Shall I take it out of the pot and put it back in a smaller one?? This is the other pot of mixed succulents. Hopefully they will be more successful.
