hey al .. ignore the idiots ... life is too short to be irritated by them... you said: So what part of Zone 5 are you in that you can plant early May? i said to start them about 4 weeks prior to last frost ... i see my sentence was rather vague .. lol ... but let me clarify further ... they need to be about 4 to 6 weeks old when they go out .... so to that you should add how long they take to germinate .... and i dont have that info off hand .... as noted.. its on the pack.. lol ... i am in adrian MI ... just south of ann arbor ... and out here in the country.. last frost date is reliably the last week of may ... and since the 'rent anniversary is 5/25 .... i can say that we have used that date as our plant out date for the 40 years i have been paying attention .... mx is in metro Detroit .. and z6 [ i have a theory about retained heat by cement causing the increased zone] .. i really question her comment that she is frost free around 5/1 ... take that with a grain of salt .. as i can see her out there building little TP's on a cold-forecasted night .. she is totally a full contact gardener ... petal to the metal ... she will get away with a few things that some of us who are not as full contact ..... only you will define were you are in that spectrum .... in my world.. i plant them out ... when i dont have to worry about them ... otherwise i leave them in the closed garage at night .. last year all the neighbors were bemoaning a late poor crop of tom's .... and we decided a late cold spell retarded proper flowering and fruit set .... after a very warm .. hot april ... may was back to march temps .... tom's are all about soil warmth.. and last year.. it was out of phase ... but in the case of tomatoes ... they are VERY.. VERY susceptible to frost ... so i would hesitate ... after investing all that effort to grow them... to not be sticking them out too early ... good luck ken

Move them outside when you don't have any more frosts or freezing temps. You must let them get used to being outside, you need to acclimate them. Bring them out for one hour the first day and increase time for 2 weeks, then they will be fine. You could grow them indoors if they are doing OK, it's up to you. You need also to slowly expose to the sun. The first few days I would leave in the shade, slowly increasing sun exposure daily too. By the last day 8 hours outside and in the sun or whatever your exposrure is. They do need sun.. 14 days is about right, works best for me. I keep mine in the garden, one is about 25 years old. I added four more last year. The 25 year old one is massive, I cut it completely down every year. It grows like crazy and produces hundreds of flowers. Pruning depends on what type you have. 3 groups exist, each are pruned differently. And if you really are a person trying to join in, and not trying to drive traffic to some outside website (why I mentioned no link, but sometimes there's a post that's sort of on topic, and the link comes later), you really are very welcome. As Sherry said, we have problems with bots. Your post was overwritten—very beautifully—for this kind of message board. Your follow up was more normal in tone, but unfortunately the new AI is capable of it all. That said, while we do run to older females in traditional families, we try not to exclude our younger, male, non-binary, non-traditional, unique and diverse posters, and it's right to call us out when we fail in that. Your point about cooking roles being more dependent on individual skills than gender is on topic, and an important POV, no matter how many of us have experienced the calcified classic gender roles in the title of the post. I bought a little table top barbecue last year, and have a littler freestanding one that's cute, but harder to use, and generally too small. I'm not really into outdoor cooking, and don't live in a climate where it's necessary. My little barbecues make my menfolk snicker. They have big and bigger gas grills to cook on...but really only for outdoor parties. I don't get the point (it not being an outdoor kitchen for all cooking in too hot and humid for indoors weather). I think barbecues should burn charcoal and aromatic wood chips to be worth the bother. I use a chimney starter. Barbecues are bad for the air quality, however, so mine are minimally used. The ”outdoors” cooking for us is not a gender thing determined by cultural norms, just a combination of attitudes and druthers that fall that way, informed by weather and circumstance.

Hi, my Persian Lime tree just got six nice fruits and more coming. Look like winter is coming hard so I'm curious if I should bring my tree indoor to south window or leave it outdoor? Weather around here is 40s in low and 60s in high right now. Should I leave it indoor until next spring or would they be ok to switch outdoor/indoor when temp drop below 40? Pot is big so it's heavy to move it around too! We are located in Burlington,WA if that'll help!
