x-post KA pro-line food processor. Anyone own this?
Comments (5)Well, I checked and they never tested the model you are considering. The most expensive currently available model is the Breville Sous Chef at 399.99. They liked that except for the fact that it chopped so fast that it was hard to stop in time when dicing food and they sometimes got mush. They liked a discontinued model of Kitchenaid ((the old 12 cup processor) the best of any they tested. Of current models thay liked the Cuisenart Custom 14 cup best. But it didn't handle dough as well as some and had a short feed tube. The latest Kitchenaid they evaluated was the 299.95 13 Cup with ExactSlice system. It was slow at most tasks and hard to clean up. Sorry, but that's all the help I have....See Morex-post: Anyone have 'Do It Best' hardwood flooring?
Comments (0)Posted at flooring forum, but wanted to see if anyone here has input... At our local True Value store, I found some very nice prefinished solid 3/4" red oak flooring made by Do It Best. The price at the store is $3.89/sq. ft. and I can get it online, shipped to the store, for $3.75/ft. We are looking at the 3 1/4 in. Galveston Oak. We are planning to install ourselves, so this is a hardwood we can fit in our budget, finally! Is it too good to be true? Anyone out there have this floor? Thanks!...See MoreJohn Boos Varnique.... anyone??? (x-post)
Comments (0)We are planning a John Boos Island top for our kitchen reno. 9'x4' and it's 1 3/4" thick. No sink, no dishwasher. Edge grain. I've been going back and forth about using mineral oil or doing a furniture finish as you may know b/c I've posted here before. I like the matte look of the wood and don't really want it to look too much like a furniture table. If we chop on it, it would just be on a small section in the prep area... not the whole island. I know if we choose a "finish" we'd need to use a cutting board only and that's fine. SO, being we are buying from BOOS, their options are mineral oil or varnique. (If you choose nothing on it, there is no warranty ) **HAS ANYONE USED THEIR "VARNIQUE" OR KNOW WHAT IT IS? HOW IT WEARS? ETC? Also, I didn't like Waterlox b/c it changed the color of my samples and had an amber color to it. Does the Varnique do that? Also Boos says it's a semi-gloss which I'm afraid will be too shiny. My gut has been to go with the Mineral Oil but I'm a little worried with all the wiping down of the island we'll be doing (eating at it with kids, etc) it may be A LOT of oiling and a lint catcher, etc... Also, getting oily papers, etc. Any advice here is greatly appreciated! : ) From their site: SELECTION OF FINISH John Boos & Co. offers two unique finishes. One is perfect for your application. Penetrating Oil: If you wish to use your butcher block top as a cutting surface, this is the only finish to purchase. Just like cutting boards and butcher blocks, the natural wood surface is protected by oil, which is actually absorbed into the fibers. It is advisable to periodically re-oil your butcher block tops to preserve their beauty and durability. If, after heavy usage, you wish to remove cut marks, just sand off the top and re-oil. It will look like new. Varnique: This beautiful semi-gloss finish is virtually maintenance free. It is impervious to most household chemicals. Cleans up easily with mild soap and water. The fine furniture look makes it the choice for kitchen island bars and eating counters. Cuts into the finish should be resealed immediately to prevent the exposed wood from absorbing moisture. John Boos EZ-DO a wipe on poly gel is recommended for use....See MoreAnyone ever repair/replace induction cooktop on range? X-post Kitchens
Comments (19)Wow, you've had almost exactly the experience we did with Samsung and we also switched to the same Electrolux. We had three replacement Samsungs (same model as yours) as various problems could not be either properly diagnosed or fixed over a three year period (all under warranty). The last one had the top explode and at that point we took Samsung to court. They paid and we bought the Electrolux which has been great. Only relatively minor complaints about the Electrolux which by the way has been totally reliable. I'd prefer to be able to directly choose a heat setting rather than turning on to medium and then going up or down. I love the large burner at right front but the right rear is too small to use on anything but a six inch pan when a 12" pan is on the front. Overall we are very happy with the Electrolux. We're going to replace it but only because during a kitchen remodel we opted for a 36" range and nobody makes a 36" so will move to gas. Overall though I'd give 5 stars to our Electrolux experience and about 2 stars to Samsung....See Moretibbrix
