Tony's 2013 fruits harvest and newly graft persimmon tree
Comments (138)Hi Tony, Beautiful pics. I see your photo of Snowqueen nectarine. Can I safely assume you grew that fruit & did not buy it at the grocery? Seems like a silly question, but... most reports I've seen say that Snowqueen is one the most highly-rated nects for flavor, but is NOT cold hardy beyond Zone-7, which is why I have not attempted growing it on my vacation property in Zone-6b. Are you growing Snowqueen in the ground in Zone-5A Nebraska? Did it survive this past winter? If you are successfully fruiting Snowqueen in Zone-5A, then all bets are off! How old is the tree? From where did you obtain it? Was the fruit richly flavored? Thanks in advance for whatever information you can share. Cheers, -Matt...See MoreChocolate persimmons almost black inside
Comments (13)Fruitcraz: Bought mine from Bay Laurel Nursery. In my greenhouse I don't let it get below 33F in winter or any other time. In winter I have 45-60 days of lows in 30s and highs in 50s. That's to get chilling on everything. Then a two month gradual warm up until the cherries set fruit. The rest of the year is basically sunny and warm. Summers top out in low 90s. The only time I heat the greenhouse all year is to maintain a low of 33-37F in winter. It's the best fruit growing system I know of anywhere. I base that on the fruit quality, consistent production, and lack of pest issues....See MoreBest spot for Fuyu Persimmon?
Comments (1)You would have gotten some responses if you had posted to the main Trees Forum. This relative obscure sub-forum doesn't get a lot of attention. Hope whichever you chose, you are satisfied with the outcome. It's hard to tell a whole lot form the picture, but option 2 seems like it would be less crowded. I hope you went with that....See MoreRust/leaf spots on persimmon n pepper holes
Comments (3)what jean said.. but as a diagnostic tool.. and trust me.. i know nothing of persimmon .. but when i look at your pix.. i see no damage on leaves inside the plant.. in other words.. its seems to be all the leaves.. which are in direct sun ... which leads me to believe that jean is correct ... may diseases are caused or encouraged by warm damp nights.. and therefore.. start inside the plant.. and work their way outwards ... since your plant is 'clean' interior-wise.. i tend to lean toward baking in the sun ... which is highly complicated by drought ... but NEVER water the leaves in the evening.. nor the fruit .. apply water to the soil ... and mulch properly ... ken...See Morecreekweb
