Cat_mom, you give me too much credit on my kitchen...that was definitely the result of a group effort with the kitchen forum. I actually am quite lacking in the decor department. I always have no idea what to do or where to start, but with a few suggestions I can tell what I like. I don't think I have bad taste (but who does?), but the trouble is I have no creativity or vision. I am very relieved that you all are suggesting doing a WT type for the sliders and the door-sized window, and giving me permission to do something else with the little windows on the side of the room. The thing is my husband really wants to be able to make the room DARK, so I fear bamboo or wood blinds would leak too much light. The original plan was to do blackout cellular shades (which would have to be white to comply with husband) but after seeing the samples, they just seem so papery-plain. What about hanging a slightly patterned sheer over cellulars to soften them and give a translucent option? I could do the same for all of the windows in the room, or I could do the little windows that way, and the big windows with the same sheer, but with an opaque lined curtain instead of a cellular. One last question for now about the big window & slider...if we do cellular shades on them, the sliders would have vertiglide with the grooves vertical, and the big window right next to it would have regular horizonal grooves. Wouldn't that look funny?

Hi domino3, okay i know you are just looking for curtain advice but if you don't mind i have two comments. 1) it looks like the boy's "bunk" bed can be broken in to two beds, since your boys are at school age now, have you thought about splitting the beds and placing one below each window. i attach a pic below for inspiration. you could then use a dresser between the beds as shown or maybe the desk you now have would fit in there. 2) with boys, whatever age, i tend to stick to roman blinds either mounted within or on the window molding (again an idea is shown in the attached picture) - there is just less risk of them "removing" themselves from the wall by an enthusiastic tug or pull. I like your idea of stripes - it will be a nice clean 'punchy' look with your neutral wall color and look good from a distance - although when it comes to kids rooms, i find that the bedroom door is the best line of defense between their room and your senses! Ha, Annie, now all I can picture is two blinking eyes up there! :) Faux68, I had thought about window tinting film, but I don't think it would really do enough to block out the early morning light that we need. linelle, it's because of folks like you that I know I don't want to permanently remove them--some folks would love these windows, I'm sure. Just not us, at 5am in the summer. :) Good to know about the light blocking ability of shutters, olychick, thanks! And I'd been wondering about opening them way up there, a pole makes sense, thanks Geoffrey. I think I'll look into the option of a more traditional window covering (shutters or blinds), since that seems like it'd look more stylish than a board or fabric piece that just covers it up, but those might be in the cards if the shutters/blinds would be a zillion dollars. Off to the custom blinds place for me...

I gave you a larger rug and beefier lamp, and got rid of the swags on the window. That's a beautiful window; let it show. I did not address the corners because I suspect that you need a large piece of art over your sideboard first. (Don't try to fill a large room with a bunch of little stuff.
