bed with bacterial soft rot

User

I have a bed that was a calla lily bed - until I discovered they had bacterial soft rot. I dug them all out (whew, did they stink!) and now I'm wondering what to do about the bed.

I'm sure I should not plant it with any bulbs, rhizomes, corms, etc. but can I use it as is for other types of plants? Or do I need to treat the soil with something before any planting? Dig the soil out and replace it? Let it lay fallow for a year or so?

I'd love to hear what you have done - successfully or unsuccessfully.
