When does new growth stop for the growing season?
Comments (18)About a foot tall. I had to put a bamboo stake near it so I wouldn't mow it over. Few of my trees are bigger than that when planted. I planted a 3-leaved American Beech I dug from my sister's woods. My brother mowed it over. It is now over my head (7-8ft). That was 18 years ago, but they truly grow slow. On the other hand, I planted an 8 inch Magnolia grandiflora stick, not brown back leaf, that is about 22 ft. tall. That was also about 20 yrs. ago. For height measurement, I use a straight bamboo stick. You cut it the length of the distance from the web between the thumb and forefinger to your eye, when your arm is extended 90 degrees from your body. To measure the tree, hold the stick with your arm completely extended, perpendicular to the ground and parallel to your body. Walk towards the tree in question (keep your arm 90 degrees from your body). When the stick is exactly as tall as the tree in your eye, the tree is as tall as you are from the trunk. Hint: hold the stick nearer the bottom so that you won't be lifting your arm as you walk towards the tree....See MoreNew week, new season!
Comments (10)As we start a new week, with special meaning for all Americans....go Navy Seals....I know that we are not supposed to be happy at the death of anyone, but I not sorry about the death of such a monster! I finished another project yesterday, a very quick candy corn and pumpkin swag. Will post pictures when I string them and add the cloth, they take up to much room when they are complete, so that will come later. Worked all afternoon in the yard and got my strawberry plants cleaned out from around the pond and removed a ton of old plants. They are beginning to bloom so maybe spring is here. I really wanted to plant a garden this year, the cost of veggies are so high, but by the time I pay someone to till the ground, add all of the things my clay ground lacks and then buy the plants or seeds and then pay someone to weed and all of the other things that it takes to grow a garden...well the cost is right back up there with the stores. I planted carrots back in the day and the ground is so hard that they were about 3" round and 1" long.... Well, it's time to start painting again, doing a pumpkins with daisy's on the front, or at least I am trying to paint daisy's. Take Care All!!!!! Belle...See MoreOT - Any Walking Dead Fans ...?
Comments (47)Hah roxsol! I was thinking this morning that that's a perfect line for our remodels: Just Survive Somehow. What a great episode - much better than the season opener I thought. Go Carol!! Linelle - I went through a few months of nightmares (I was never one to watch zombie movies-but now think I probably could, and scoff!) but eventually, it becomes all about the people and just as addictive as your favorite book/tv/move series. I've watched the first episode 4/5? times.. it's that good....See MoreWalking Dead season finale tonight
Comments (12)I've been told that Maggie will become the leader because Rick has a breakdown, which we saw coming in last nights show. He lost complete control and realized he lead his group to a slaughter. According to the comics (which I've never read but my Fed Ex driver has.. lol), Glen dies, Maggie cuts her hair and takes control of the group. I'm in a FB group and a lot of people believe Aaron is the one who dies.. The show didn't really focus on him and while his character did grow since the group took over the compound, he's expendable. The writers are really playing mind games with the fans. There are so many different endings for this. Even the actors don't know who Negan kills. They won't find out until they start filming the next season. How else could they possible keep this secret for six months?...See Morededtired
