Close up of island, with bump out sink: I went to the fabricator's shop today and they think they found a way to make it work, but since they initially had concerns, I would love to see how anyone else dealt with this issue.

I think that we're just going to bite the bullet and go for marble. We found a fairly large slab, 124 x 77 of Carrara Statuarietto. Although it has a lot of gray veining, it is really a white marble. I just hope it's large enough. I am NOT going to buy a 2nd slab for just a few square feet. Did your fabricators ever inspect the stone you wanted before you purchased it to verify that it would work? My fabricator said that the slab 'should' be large enough. Isn't there a way to be certain? Michelle16, if this slab doesn't work, I will probably take you up on calling Elisabeth.

Not sure why @Dena Schlutz is responding to a 6-month-old question, but in any case she is incorrect. Most granites are not porous and do not stain. The entire phrase “the same characteristics as other granite” indicates ignorance on this subject, as there are many varieties of granites and they have different levels of maintenance needs, though most are low-maintenance. Some need sealing once a year. Some do not need sealing at all. There are a small number that behave more like marble, with Kashmir White being the most well-known of those. The OP’s pictured granite is not of that type. The OP’s granite looks to be in the same family as Bianco Antico, a low-maintenance granite that needs sealing once a year at the most. Likely the OP has made her decision by now, but for anyone else reading this thread, I had to correct what @Dena Schlutz wrote.

You might see more comments if you were able to provide photos of the flooring and space. I'm thinking something silvery in tone with different textures among the finishes to provide variety rather than a lot of different colors. A bit of a thicker pile for the carpeted areas is always nice to see in medical offices. The lower-end clinics usually have the industrial berber carpet tiles. Wallpaper can sometimes add a luxurious touch rather than just paint, but if the walls are already textured, then you are stuck with painting. If you did want to bring in a color aside from just neutrals, then keep it to tones within a single color family to keep that understated luxurious feel without getting so busy with multiple competing colors would be my advice. Sometimes you can pick out complementary colors from the granite itself with electronic color gauges. A color expert can help you with this or you can purchase these units fairly inexpensively on Amazon. It's a great way to find colors that will work with your existing finishes. Having spent a lot of time in medical facilities in the last two years due to a family member who has become severely disabled, I'm trying to think what decor schemes have most stood out to me. It's always fun to see some sparkle and shine in the finishes. Polished metal hardware and other metal touches add a nice feel. Mirrors and dark woodwork are also high-end touches. Don't forget to add some plants or other natural elements to the exterior, interior or both. Most of all, people will remember how well the staff treated them more so than the decor. The level of respect and service is what makes a world of difference and will earn you the kinds of reviews you want. We always enjoy coffee machines and water available in the waiting areas, so nice.
