It totally amazes me what happens in restaurants or fast food places. And yes I would have said something. I don't like sending food back either unless there is a big problem with it, cause you never know what they will do with it before you get it back.

Was sitting in a nice restaurant one time when a mouse ran across the floor into the kitchen. Told the waiter about it and he just shrugged it off as if it was just no big deal. Never went back there.

I would've said something. Did so the other day in a similar incident. I did tell the manager that I could be overreacting, so feel free to ignore me. They didn't ignore me.

I definitely would have said something both times. I'm sure if a food inspector had been present, he/she would have treated these as serious situations.

Would have done the same. On mouse, probably would have created a minor "scene"... maybe a shriek of shock... not fear.

Consider the caliber and attention to the job of most employees in that situation and let it pass. If it isn't a fine dining restaurant where employees are given training and standards to follow, that kind of stuff in a mom and pop or franchise chain restaurant is to be expected. The person you observed likely doesn't know and doesn't care and their supervisor (who may have had that very job 6 months earlier) may feel exactly the same way.

I agree with Elmer, none the less, it is disturbing. My DH was at a McDonald's late at night on his way home. He likes the french fires.

A worker was mopping up the floor. DH went to the counter, this same person then walked behind the counter and was about to serve him. DH said "No thanks, " and left.

Even if the worker put on plastic gloves, he was still just working with a dirty bucket of water!

Owners & managers are responsible to the health department, so I'd bet they do train employees.

If someone wants to mentally shrug shoulders at this kind of thing, not tell management, *& conitinue eating*, that's that person's decision, but it's only fair to warn management for the benefit of the rest of us.

To the original post.....sometimes what happens in restaurant kitchens does not stay in restaurant kitchens!!! Stories of incidents reach out. Like salads or other "stuff" left uneaten on plates being recycled onto new plates, etc. Stories abound, so if one eats out in restaurants, prend soin because it probably has happened to you without your knowledge.

I definitely would've said something. How does anyone expect people to learn if things are not pointed out to them? Most young men or women probably haven't spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing food or cleaning up so they need to be instructed.

I would have probably discreetly mentioned to our server that someone should go behind him and rewipe the tables with a clean towel.

We were having breakfast at a restaurant and the waitress was setting the table handling the silverware by the 'eating' end, and she had a bandaid on her finger. This grossed us out, and we mentioned it to the manager. He was horrified and immediately went over and spoke to her.

I have mentioned over and over all kinds of things like that but then they go oh, okay and then when they think you are gone or not looking yes, that cloth goes all over the place, ugh.

I don't like it either at the deli part of grocery store and I have seen pieces of deli meat dropped on floor and else where and picked up and put back with the others. I reported that and the gal at customer service looked at me and I said would you like that? Would you eat that if that happened to you, no. Well, neither do we. I have seen it all and oh, ugh, makes me sick.

I have been to Swiss Chalet restaurant lately and each time the tables are sticky, ugh and its like haven't they cleaned their rags or even rinsed them and what on earth do they put on those rags to make all tables sticky?

I was seated and pulled up the rolled up sliverware to move it over and had to tuck on it hard and found underneath a huge sticky spot it was holding it down.

Moved to another table and same thing sticky. Almost have to bring your own cleaning stuff to have a clean table to sit down at.

I probably would have said something to the kid wiping the tables directly not his manager, unless of course he disregarded my suggestion to get a new rag. McDonalds? I would have reported, absolutely. Worked in restaurants many years ago and It's why I don't care to eat out and don't very often if ever. Nothing is as good as home made anyway.

How many times have you seen the produce man in the grocery store pick up green beans (especially) from the floor and throw them back on the display pile of beans?

ALL food service employees ARE given training in sanitation of when the Health Dept inspectors come by, they're going to get a bad rating or perhaps even be closed down! It doesn't matter if it's a push food cart or The Four Seasons - it must meet the state law standards of health and sanitation.

I would have. Once I was at the meat counter at the grocery store and pointed out to the clerk that there was hamburger smeared on the floor where the customers stood (a fall hazard). She came around to wipe it up with her bare hands, went back behind the counter and back to handling the meat. I then reminded her to wash her hands. She wasn't gracious about it but she did it (the sink was within view).

I pulled my mother out of the rehab where I witnessed the housekeeper go from cleaning the toilet, to the sink, to my mother's bedside table all with the same, unrinsed cloth. Oh my gosh. People have no idea.

Yes, I shudder to think of what goes on behind the scenes at restaurants & grocery stores. I try to eat & have a good time.

But when it's blatant & obvious, it turns my stomach. A mouse would certainly do that to me. Because I'm sure there's more mice where that came from.

Now, as a rule I like mice. I just don't want them mingling in my supper!
