two narrow doors or one big door

The kitchen is 10 feet wide and the designer has recommended a 36 inch hood over the induction cook top. We are doing frame less cabinets and we can do one big door to the top left of the hood or two narrow doors. The two narrow doors would be about 11 to 12 inches wide each in a shaker style. Probably one big door would be about 23 inches wide on the wall cabinet. This is a blind wall cabinet and the wall cabinet to the left of the blind wall cabinet on the sink wall is 21 inches wide. All cabs 39 inches tall with a 3 inch molding at the top. 8 foot ceiling.

What would you prefer? Or should we reconsider going with a 36 inch hood. We don't fry a lot.

It is hard to picture which makes it so hard. The wall cabinets to the left and the right of the stove are blinds. With a 36 inch hood we will probably have two narrow doors, but was wondering if one big door on the wall cabinets left and right of the stove would be better.

Personal preference really. The bigger single door will be more likely to blow in during a hurricane or other severe weather event but that's really the only downside. As long as it's rigged right it is not any less reliable. I prefer the look of the double doors but have a big single door on my house. Speaking of coffee mugs... I often wish I'd seen the little shallow shelves that some people tuck under their uppers for that purpose...Or maybe made room to hang mugs. Just something else to think about and confuse the issue, maybe. ;-) I know that this is a whole 'nother option, and seems to fly in the face of my preference for the double door, but if you want to embrace the open shelves and use them more, which I can see happening because of my own experience, I could seriously consider a 12" door (hinging on the left, knob on the right) and 24" of open shelves from it to corner. (Long sentence) But again, it depends on how much open vs closed storage you want in that corner.

Depending on layout and available space, one may need to opt for one or other option. I remember always wanting a home with side entry garages but due to lack of space on the left, ended up building front entry snout garages in our home in NJ. Subsequently I initially designed our next home in PNW with side garages but so glad I did not entirely pursue that dream. Main two double garages with two 18' glass/aluminium doors will flank front left with an additional side entrance double garage with 40' of hard standing, for my hobbies etc. Coming home late in the evening on a dark rainy night in the PNW, the last thing one would want is try to negotiate a 90degree turn in a large suv; sure I would do it but probably drive my DW mad.

Too many doors in one room, two door entrances

Post 2. Please help me organize my living room. There are too many doors going in and out of it. I have a sectional that is semi U shape that measures 9x7x13 feet. Door #1 opens right into the center of the living. I'm just worried that placing my sectional near that door will make it awkward with the limited space. Our house is located on the corner and both doors have porches. Its hard to choose which one is the main entrance. Also, can I have any space for a small entry way??? please see pics.

I've had both. I had a single door before the remodel which I think was about 20" and I had to step back to open the door. Now the doors on the left are 13" and the doors on the right are 11 3/4". Cabs are 39" and crown is about 4".

I'm not crazy about the 30" hood in photos because it doesn't show the 3D appearance. It's a boxy hood and uses up the space pretty well.

Did your designer not provide drawings showing what the cabinets will look like?

Thanks, We just saw the new photos and they look great with 2 doors. Just can't help obsessing sometimes!

Mayflowers, it was really helpful to see photos of cabinets in someones house. The door sizes will be very similar. Your kitchen is really nice and I love your peninsula with cubbies.

These are glass, but same idea with doors being 23.5" on right and 25.5" (split) on left. Cabinets as a whole are 27.25" and 29.25"

Clueless, That's amazing. I can't tell the cabinets on the left are bigger than the door on the right. Thanks for the examples. They look great. I like the glass on your cabs. Very pretty pendant too.
