dishwasher drawers?

I'm considering putting in dish washer drawers (stacked) and would love your thoughts on the pros and cons of them. It is only 2 of us and we don't generate very many dishes so i thought it might make sense. Any feedback welcome!

I think it's a good idea. We've had ours for about 5 years now; I love them. We had a baby last year, but before that it was just my H and me.

FYI - Ive owned three F/P dishdrawers at different properties over the last 15 years. Heard from both the experience center in Orange County and also from the service technician that Finish Quantum (first choice) or Finish Classic are recommended above other brands, and Cascade is actually not recommended. The explanation they gave me was that there is less detergent in the Finish packets, which is better as the drawers are smaller than a full size unit. The cascade packs are portioned for full size units. You can, of course, use Cascade powder or Finish powder but do not overfill. If you’re using packets, place them in the silverware bucket so they don’t interfere with the dishwasher arms. Hope this helps and sorry for replying to an ancient thread, it just happens to be the most relevant one for new buyers.

kitchendreaming, the manual I have says "User Guide DD24 models". Is that the same as yours? On page 23 - Auto Power Setting - It explains the feature and goes on to say that it can be turned off. On page 24 - Option Adjustments - It's a chart that looks kind of complicated but read through it and follow the steps. Auto power option is the third column on the chart. If you don't have the same manual let me know and I will scan it. I have had the dish drawers for a year now and I love them. It just takes a bit of getting used to the differences from a traditional dishwasher. You will get to know how your dishes fit and don't be afraid to put larger items stacked on top of your other dishes. There are some great posts and photos over on the appliance board.

I don't have experience with those specific items but I can say the spray is strong and lightweight items will get jostled / flipped. One can get creative anchoring lightweight items using clothes pins. Items on the side shelves sit at a slight angle so tend to be a little more stable. Small items can be placed on the side shelves under (glass) bowls and such. A sippy cup with handles could perhaps be placed in the rack with some other item positioned against a handle to help anchor it. I bought some KitchenAid anchor clips years ago which fit the DD racks but KA changed the design of the clips and the new style doesn't work. The Delicate cycle has less spray pressure which helps in some cases.

Have had a two drawer dish drawer for 10 years. Never use the bottom one - too low. They are LOUD, unless they've changed them. Mine is FP, and you have to take it apart to to clean. Forget putting anything too big inside.

There are just two of us and we didn't opt for the drawers. I felt like that was just more stuff to break down. We seem to have no problem filling ours up if we're cooking and eating at home. If not it may take a couple days before it's full of coffee cups, breakfast dishes, silverware and glassware. Once we got a modern day dishwasher that allows anything on the top or bottom we started washing everything that can go in the dishwasher in the dishwasher. Now that we do that I can't imagine using only half the space unless you feel compelled to run it after every meal.
