Transplanting Japanese iris(Iris ensata)

Can I do them now at this time of the season? I am located in northern NJ. They are in the ground, not in water. But the area I will be transplanting is crater like and makes puddles there. And then after I transplant it, can I apply holly-tone fertilizer on it? Or should I wait until next year

You can move now but wait until spring to apply any fertilizer.

Ok will holly-tone fertilizer do it? Or is there some other special fertilizer for irises

That name may just be the anglicized form of the original Japanese cultivar name. Many of these selections have been around for years but not necessarily widely available in the US. If you are interested in Japanese iris, I'd recommend checking out Ensata Gardens for a really impressive selection. Prices are much better than WFF as well. I use MirAcid on mine. They are also in a bog by the pond. I have read a few times NOT to use Aluminum Sulfate. Marian

Japanese do like slightly acid conditions. Holly-tone sounds good.
