Whoa, that is a tight space isn't it. The first thought that comes to mind is no coffee table. I can't tell if you have space where there floor lamp is for an end table or not. otherwise maybe one of those end tables that slide under the end of the sofa. Or a small scale ottoman that can double as a coffee table.

How many people will be hanging out in there or what do you use that area for?

It looks like all the white pieces on the tv wall are freestanding? Would you considering taking them out? If you did you could flip flop the tv wall and sofa wall.

Family of four. 2 young children. We need enough comfortable seating to watch a movie together, etc.

Yes, totally open to all new furniture that fits properly. We had all this stuff from our previous house and just made it work.

First, put a TV in the small sitting room. Your children can watch TV there when you're doing other things and cannot supervise them in your LR.

I like the idea of flipping the bookcases to the longer wall. Then get a shorter sofa that fits between them and mount lamps on the sides for reading on the sofa. Then you will have room for two club chairs on either side of the fireplace, and perhaps at least one smaller pull-up chair at right angle to the sofa. Brown furniture has to go with the wall color - it's like a cave in there now!

A small loveseat? Long bench? A pair of chairs or console table in front of it?

In trout of the window? Two smallish comfy chairs and a round table between. Great spot to keep an eye on the goings-on in the kitchen, sitting room, family room, outside, read, chat.

Looking at the window: Left wall - 8 ft 10 in, opening to dining area -10.5 ft; Window wall - 11 ft; Right wall - 11 ft, opening to sitting room - 4.5 ft.

I'd put a built in bench under the window. Have lid that opens - great storage.

I think that maybe a sectional might work. It wouldn't seem so cluttered and would provide the seating that you need. If you measure very carefully you can find one to fit the exact dimensions that you need.

For starters I would get a much smaller coffee table. A narrow one would be great or something like what Roarah has.

Also, an apartment size sofa and would help tremendously.

I like the wall color. Is that a built-in FP? If not, I would remove. I would also suggest the TV be placed lower, as the room is not wide enough to support a TV over the FP w/o causing significant (future) neck damage to you and the children.

Smaller, apartment size sofa and chairs. A pair of square tables or stools to replace coffee table (depending on feet or glass use).

Is that the front door in the first picture (through opening)? If so, I would keep sofa/chairs on that side of the room. Better to see them when entering than TV wall.

I agree with Alison. If you can lose the fp and maybe even the cabs on either side and replace with a lower piece it would make a huge difference.
