How to arrange furniture in our oddly shaped living room
Comments (4)What is the depth of the couch? The length, width and height of the side tables? Ditto for the arm chair, the size and shape of the ottoman, the height and width of the entertainment center. Is there a desk chair? What is the width of the desk? Does it have an opening in the middle or on the right or left side? Is the back of the desk finished? Right now, making guesses, I can't fit everything into the space unless you don't want to get into the dining room, kitchen or hallway :-( It's not the lack of wall space; it's the lack of space for all your furniture....See MoreHow to arrange living room furniture
Comments (34)Here're some grabbed quick off a fine designers' website that aren't templates for this room but do illustrate the idea of loosening up furniture placement for living and inviting people in. There's no rule about facing a sofa to a fireplace or not, placing something diagonally or not, just as there's no rule that furniture must be placed at rigid right angles and not allowed to be angled or moved over for better conversation. These designers charge a lot to mess furniture placement up like this. David Easton's, second below, could look as if it were going to be formal right-angle but some of the chairs aren't placed yet--but it doesn't. This designer knows how to arrange furniture for comfort AND elegance, without static rigidity. Note that none of these arrangements present their backs or a cold shoulder to guests in the doorway. They draw people in. Not all pictures clearly illustrate that, but the designers' stature guarantee it is the case. Also note all these arrangements include a lightweight chair or two, or more, that could be moved closer in or over for a really good coze....See MoreNeed help arranging furniture in a weird living room!
Comments (10)I like the suggestions of others, but if you'd rather keep things facing the window (prefer the view or would rather have a more open traffic pattern or whatever), you can totally make that work too. I think the picture window is a centered in the whole space, and you want your living space centered closer to the fireplace, so it may work better to have just one chair or unmatched chairs, so you're not trying to create a symmetrical arrangement in an assymetrical space. Also, it looks like you have a reasonable sized space where the keyboard (?) is. I would consider treating that as a separate little nook (not really connected to the living room) maybe with a cozy chair and side table, or a small desk or the keyboard, or whatever is useful to you....See MoreNeed help with living room furniture arrangement
Comments (2)What is on the front wall (to the right in your drawing)? Are the units cm or inches? I don't see the problem, other than that you wish it were larger, but I might be missing something int he details here. Does the TV have to be where drawn?...See Morelisanacch
