Fleck 5600sxt softner settings HELP

I purchased this system and installed it a week ago. It seems that the water is never soft. Here are the details
48000 grain tank
50 GPM pump (sticker on front)
2.9 GPM drain
24 hardness
What are the settings I should change since I have very hard water (24)? Seems that the water before It goes through the softner is the same hardness as it comes from the sink.

Do you know your water TDS and pH?

Are you on city or well water?

What softening resin is installed in the softener?

What size is the BLFC (Brine Line Flow Control - it is an orifice installed in the line)? There should be a small sticker on the valve.

Sorry, my mistake - I was looking at the # for the higher salt dosage. 10 days is correct at 8 lb salt / cu ft resin for you. I NEVER said there was not a relationship between salt dosage and capacity. I said the relationship was not linear, but logarithmic. 8 lb/cu ft is not necessarily better for you - you made that choice. If you want to use 6 instead that is absolutely fine - you will be more salt efficient and less water efficient regen every 6 days and use 7 lb less salt per month (assuming 60 gallons/person/day water usage).

If you want soft water then get a correctly sized and set up water softener. With a 1" water service line a 3/4" Fleck 5600 would not be the correct choice. Either a Fleck 7000SXT or a Clack WS1 would be perfect with the nod going to the Clack for ease of programming. Clack control valves are not sold online so you have to find a local independent water treatment professional. As far as softener sizing wait till you have definitive water condition details, including iron, so you get it right.

If you are on a municipal water system you are likely under a plumbing code. I don't have the citation handy but in plain English one can not install a device or appliance in a service line that restricts the diameter or flow of that service line. Plumbing diameters are calculated to provide the required water volume and pressure for the appliances and fixtures downstream. If you have a 1" service it was sized for that application. The plumbing police will not show up in the middle of the night to red tag your house. There is no failure looming because you installed a 5600 on a 1" service. Installing a smaller bore softener valve than the service line is often done just like an alarmingly high percentage of softeners sold, both online and in person, are undersized for the treatment requirements of the installation. It is a rare occurrence to come across a softener that is correctly sized and set up for efficient operation. Unfortunately your vendor supplied the wrong size control valve (the 1" bypass does not correct for the 3/4" bore of the 5600), second tier quality 8% resin instead of first tier quality 10% resin, and did not instruct you how to correctly set up the softener, but that is in keeping with their apparent lack of knowledge regarding water treatment and plumbing requirements that your vendor has demonstrated. Instead of getting what you needed you got what they wanted to sell you and you had no way to know that was happening. You didn't know what you didn't know and stumbled onto an online vendor who was motivated by profit rather than selling you what you needed. You are not alone cause the same thing is being done to unsuspecting customers every minute of every day. That's why people who know spend their time trying to help people who don't know on these forums... if they'd only ask before they buy.

Your TDS is the same as your hardness? That would be highly unusual. Are you certain?

BLFC is not 50. The sticker should have a low GPM #, somewhere between 0.125 and 1.0, then a lb/min #, somewhere between 0.38 and 3.0. Either number will work.

When you purchased the softener, did it arrive pre-assembled or did you have to add the resin? If you had to assemble, what did the resin bag look like? Did the beads appear to be whole speres or broken?

What are the current setting? Specifically (in master programming mode), C, H, SF, DO, BW, BD, RR, BF?

How long has the softener been in operation?

When you say the water is never soft, do you mean that it never FEELS soft, or that you have analysis to show that it is not actually soft?

The front sticker says 50 GPM and then 1.5 salt/min under it. The TDS is 425 and the hardness is 25 grains. The resin was already filled when I installed it.I made sure all the connections were going in the right way. It seems the water is not as soft as people seem it to be. The water that isn't softned is 425 TDS, and about that after. It doesn't seem to be doing anything.

BLFC is 0.50 gpm, 1.5 lb salt /min. It may be written without the zero -- .50

I'm going to have to make some guesses here because you did not provide complete information. So, let's assume the softener wasn't set up properly to begin with, which is reasonable based on where you purchased it. To set it up correctly:

Enter Master Programming Mode and set the following:
1. DF=Gal
2. VT=St1b (on some it's Df1b)
3. CT= Fd
4. NT=1
5. TS (doesn't matter - you only have one tank)
6. C=36
7. H=25
8. RS=SF
9. SF=20
10. RC=0
11. DO=10
12. RT=2:00 (or another convenient time when you won't typically be using water for a couple of hours)
13. BW=10
14. BD=60
15. RR=10
16. BF=8
17. Ensure all days are set to ON, unless you have a specific day of the week when you don't want to softener to regen
18. CD doesn't matter unless you set a day to OFF in step 17
19. FM=t0.7
20. Exit Master Programming Mode
Now, before you assume the softener isn't doing it's job, analysis is the only way to determine hardness. After a regen, sample inlet and outlet and check hardness. Do the same analysis again after several days. If your water doesn't test at nearly 0 gpg after the softener, then you will need to talk to the folks you purchased it from.
