Wedding quilt FINALLY finished!!!

This is a quilt that one of my dearest friends wanted to make for her son's wedding next weekend, but she really isn't a quilter, so she enlisted my help. We came up with the center square design where she used 9 photos that had meaning to them, but that only made a 60" square and she wanted something queen-sized and would hang down like a bedspread. She had most of the fabrics that she wanted to use, we just had to figure out how they would play together. To make it larger, I added borders and made the star squares for her (actually, after she sewed what I told her to do on the center squares, I finished the quilt!) The quilt ended up 102" square and I couldn't get the same fabric in a wide width, so I pieced the back and because my friend wanted it COLORFUL, I added strips of the fabrics we used on the front. I finished the quilting and binding last night, trimmed all the threads today, and she came to pick it up this afternoon. She loved it, so I hope the wedding couple does, as well.

To surprise them, I made pillow shams to match the quilt. I finished them tonight so I only need to get a gift bag and now I can breathe a sigh of relief! It isn't easy wielding a queen sized quilt through my Pfaff standard machine, but got it done!

Donna, I see no reason to be disappointed. Both quilts are great. I think I see what you mean about the kaleidoscope blocks. Although the print has many different colors and patterns, it's quite homogenous in its spacing. There are no "empty," or background, spaces. Maybe that's what you're sensing. That being said, the colors are great, and the quilt is happy and bright. Your baby quilt has elements of an I SPY quilt. That pattern really looks complicated to me. It definitely takes planning. It is adorable. The animals are so sweet. Very nice work on both of them.

Thanks everyone. It is bright (not exactly my fabric choices, but my friend, Eva, had been collecting lots of fat quarters). I did overrule some of them and dig through her fabrics for things that were tamer!

Bev - the fabric in the center of the stars is from some Arches National park fabric! I fussy cut some of the scenes for each star. It is also around the center photo in the quilt. They are getting married just outside of Moab, Utah on Saturday, so it seemed like it should be the "focal" fabric of the quilt!

Just wanted to share the couple opening the quilt. The wedding was in Utah at a state park - beautiful setting. They opened "family" gifts on Friday night before the wedding. The bride was in tears, the groom overwhelmed. They were staying in the yurt and put the quilt on the bed immediately - and invited EVERYONE (100+ people) to come and see it.
