Can I save these bulbs?
Comments (3)Separate out the bulbs....divide them up and replant, as soon as possible saving as much of the root and the green tops as possible. It's very possible they won't bloom for you next spring, but will the year after that. Pht some bone meal or a bulb booster in with them when you replant. They are narcissus....I always call them Pheasant's eye....but I think they also may be called "poet's"...something like that. At any rate I love they as they are very late blooming for narcissul and very dainty. Linda C...See MoreHelp this weed/bulb thing has taken over my life!!
Comments (4)Sounds like nutgrass. As you've discovered, it's very persistent because of the small bulbs on its root tips. You can win if you remove the green growth before the plant develops 4 leaves, then repeat as needed until the bulblets are starved. Comments (7)when you hit the wall ... one option is to build a nursery bed... or use the veg patch late in the fall .. remove all your perennials.. bare rooting and removing the invaders... plant in the nursery ... and go at the evil weed patch in your preferred method.. personally.. i would round up it all ... then come spring.. move the plants back to the bed.. if you feel you have destroyed the bad stuff ... if you want to learn how to use RU ... start a post in the perennial forum.. appropriately titled ... do harvest seed from the reseeders this fall .. if you need to know how to do that.. new post in the annual forum ... i think you really need to mulch ... and you can do that.. and have the reseeders... if you limit the spaces for such .... in other words.. reduce you unmulched soil to a min.. so you can reduce the areas that will need weeding ... another alternative.. is to harvest seed.. and start them in flats ... and move them into the mulch as young plants in early spring ... check out the winter sowing forum ... ken...See MoreWhen should I dig up and separate tiger lily bulbs?
Comments (4)My tiger lilies are beautiful. I must have purchased the bulbs from the right place because they grow with the larkspurs and make a magnificent display. The lilies are almost my height (5'2) and are very showy. Even now the plants are pretty, but are terribly crowded. I have taken out some daylilies, and other plants that I am not that crazy about in preparation of working up the bed to transplant the bulbs. My father was a gardener, and he used to be very proud of his tiger lilies, so as mine bloom, I have very fond memories of my father. I am sure this is why they may be more beautiful to me than to anyone else. Also, of my 95 rose bushes, none of them are orange, so bringing in the orange color makes them unique. I will wait until Oct., and if any of you can think of other suggestions for the lilies, please let me know. dbarron and stockergal, I really appreciate your input. As I amend the soil, I would love to know what to put in so that they will grow well -- and how to separate them so that at least a few will have a good bloom until the new ones get large enough. Thanks, Sammy...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
