Not a Pro. It's a tight space. I think you did a great job. Maybe just shifting everything a little closer to the fireplace may give you the room needed so you don't feel tight at the kitchen.

If you want to keep the sofas in same spot I would set the TV up in front of the Bay window and find a TV stand with storage for some of your children's toys/projects. That or place the Tv on the stair wall and set up the couches around that. I think the key is finding something that can store your childrens stuff so you can open up the room.

My husband is a publisher, so we have a TON of books. It's kind of a library, actually. And a place to display some of our most loved art work (Mangelsen's and some NW indigenous pieces). It's also our Christmas space and the place where we settle in for conversations when friends are over and the weather is not conducive to using the deck.

Good thing you sent over the floor plan as the dimensions were an honorable try. haha You are right, this room is very challenging for a proper layout with all the openings. The architecture is lovely, but they forgot that people need to function in the space. This happens all the time. This floor plan might work for you. 1) Relocate the the TV to the opposite wall. (sorry) There is an opportunity to do a wall entertainment display and possibly a fireplace. By switching to the other wall, it will expand the space, making it feel larger and it won't feel like a room only with a tv. More inviting. See below for some pics. 2) Instead of two lounge chairs, consider a loveseat version of your existing sofa. Adding other styles or additional pieces, along with all the openings into the room, will always look cluttered. Keep the seating consistent. 3) The coffee tables should match in different sizes. Don't match the console under the window or the little side tables. They can be the same wood or finish but not same style. 4) The rug is 11' x 16'. The size is odd, but I do well by going to a regular carpet store and having them cut to size and bound the edges. A regular roll of carpet is usually 12" wide. It's an inexpensive way to go and your selection is unlimited. Make sure they add in a rug pad for the entire size. 5) The one thing this room has going for it, is wall space for great art. Think big, especially behind the sofa. That wall will be the focus when entering. There is plenty of room to walk to the bedrooms behind the sofa and to and from the kitchen.
