enviroslab countertop - has anyone used this?
Comments (7)Wow...you'd think they'd seal it enough that it would be impermeable. I know they do that with true concrete countertops... Sorry I couldn't be more help. At least you know now that EnviroGlass is significantly different from other recycled glass products. The chipping out issue wouldn't be as much of a danger in a bath, I would think, as it might in a kitchen where implements/dishes etc. might drop on it. You might be able to post this on ApartmentTherapy (in the reNest section, which is their sustainable area) in their "good questions" section -- include a link and say you haven't been able to find consumer feedback yet. They may publish it -- or not -- but it's at least another venue, one possibly more likely to have folks who would use this. Ah, thought of another: maybe try the Sustainable Living Forum here? Sorry again for lack of more help....See MoreAnyone have or even seen paperstone counters, esp Mocha or Obsidi
Comments (4)I have seen paperstone and loved it. I liked the look and feel of it, felt sort of like Corian, flat and smooth. Colors are limited, I loved the black and I normally like bright color. The counter on display had scratches though and I think that would bother me. I'm not sure if it scratches easily or not. I saw it in a showroom in Seattle called Eco Haus. They are a 'green' products company. I heard of Paperstone through my cabinet maker, he told me about a new 'green' community being built that used paperstone in all the houses. I found this info about paperstone on their site. Here is a link that might be useful: about paperstone...See MoreButcher block counter tops: Ikea vs. Lumber Liquidators
Comments (9)Yes.. it is resolved, they gave me some money back. They promised they will start supplying all solid wood all through since my incident. You should be able to buy with confidence now. It's not veneer in the sense that it is 1/64" thin, the maple is 1/4" with 1" oak in betweem. It's still very durable. I havn't had a problem with it so far. Not that I need to talk about my fix anymore because no one else should encounter this now. It is important you use the butcherblock right away because I waited a bit too long and the store manager was being difficult with me. It took combined effort of the GW "angry mob" until I got a call from their corporate guy :) BTW love my wood counter top, the "sound" especially. This one island counter I created from the LL BB, if I didn't tell, you wouldn't know there is oak inside....See MoreNew Ikea Sektion base cabinets and stone countertop install
Comments (58)"For the undermount sink we screwed two strips of wood to the side walls of the cabinet to support the sink." I strongly discourage this procedure. I constantly repair leaking double bowl stainless steel sinks that have been supported this way. Most sinks do not have a stanchion between the bowls. This means that each bowl is supported by wood on one side and steel-on-the-flat on the other. Steel-on-the-flat flexes, especially with the weight of a disposal pulling the sink down, causing leaks. Leaks cause rot, rust, insect infestation, and unsanitary gunk where you're preparing food for your family. Of course I have tons of pictures to support my claims. Wood cleats cannot provide the constant upward even pressure on sinks that a Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or a Sink Strap (Regent Stone Products) can. You can stand in a strapped sink. You can jump up and down in a strapped sink. You can push on the steel-on-the-flat and it will not budge; it can't defy the laws of physics. And straps take up less room than cleats....See MoreMDLN
