Help, I'm Stuck Trying to Choose Counter Stools!
Comments (4)I love British West Indies style, but the "contemporary" house is throwing me. It would be helpful to see your kitchen cabinetry and bar. Of the three stools you mention, only the Tommy Bahama has the tropical twist. What other pieces of furniture that you already have will be in the family room? My favorite web site for browsing this style of furniture is Carolina Rustica William Sheppee Saddler bar stool has a woven leather seat that gives a rattan like look. It comes with a back or backless. I like some of the Stanley furniture, Coastal Living pieces, but the stools I looked at are bigger than your requirements. Kincaid's Bistro stool is similiar to the frontgate one you show, but I am not sure of the price range. Often the British look is a redder wood tone, so I think more info on your colors and tones is important....See Moreonline source for countertop height bar stools???
Comments (17)Below is the link for Penney's stools. I've been getting their catalogs for years and have a few saved for when we need to buy them. They seem to have a really good selection, different heights / styles / finishes. When my parents needed some we ended up finding a Bistro set at BJ's Wholesale that was more reasonably priced then Penney's. If you do see something you like at Penney's, be sure to google JC Penney coupon code, you should be able to find a decent coupon. Also sign up for their email deals. Comments (5)In general...The 6 & 10 Rule [from AZStoneConsulting, IIRC] If your stone is 2cm thick, you will need support for any overhang > 6" If your stone is 3cm thick, you will need support for any overhang > 10" With a 15" overhang: 2cm stone would need 9" of support (15" - 6" = 9") 3cm stone would need 5" of support (15" - 10" = 5")...See MorePlease educate me on soapstone counters. What do we need to consider?
Comments (17)We have soapstone in our current/old house that we inherited from the previous owners, and once I stopped trying to keep it oiled and perfect every minute of the day, I fell in love with it. We’ve lived in this house for five years and the soapstone has been here for nine years and we haven’t had any chips. We have had surface scratches, but it took something pretty hefty to gouge the counter. They aren’t easily visible after being oiled once. We just bought a new house and would have automatically gone with soapstone in the kitchen, but the kitchen is small and dark, and so we wanted to bring in a surface that reflected light. Ultimately, I think that it boils down to what kind of person you are. Would you prefer to have perfectly uniform counters at all times? I’d considered leathered granite then. If you’re okay with counters that look like they’re used and loved, I don’t think you can go wrong with soapstone. For full disclosure, we also have a zinc island that has a beautiful patina, so we’re good with that kind of thing....See MoreRenee Texas
