Bad time for shipping plumeria?
Comments (5)Welcome to the crazy world of plumeria. I would wait until spring unless you can find some close to home. You might try craigs list, Lowes, or Home depot. Most seller did not mail them with flowers or buds on them. And yes if they did I would think that they would take them off just like the leaves. I could be wrong but most of the time when I buy rooted cuttings on ebay they will tell you if it will flower this season and you will pay more. Hope that this will help you, Barb...See MoreGood time for building, bad time for loan
Comments (5)Diddo! We are due to break ground in about 2 weeks and have had a hell of a time getting our loan. We ended up getting an iterim (sp?) loan because the one time close was nearly impossible for a new construction. We own our land free and clear yet all banks around here were still asking for 20% down. Our loan is only 132K our land value is $28k. We are building a modest home but our dream home none the less...at times I felt like giving in and buying a home but we just couldnt find the right one. My builder has 3 custom homes that he has been unable to sell since Jan. 08 , this just didnt look good to a lot of banks. Then on top of that we are so young (23 and 26) that our credit rating (about 703) was okay but the history just wasnt long enough. We started our loan process in April and have been strung along by the "3 to 5 business days" line since then. It finally looks like we are going to close though so we are pretty excited. We are ending up with 6 percent interest on a 30 year fixed loan through FHA. However, if we end up with atleast 20% equity come final appraisal then we will end up with a conventianol loan....See Moreuse-by, best-by, sell-by... or never goes bad??
Comments (8)Not sure if there's a question in there. ;-) I tend to have a slightly different philosophy: Condiments or other stuff that lasts forever - If I realize that forever is close to approaching I'll decide if I can realistically expect to use any of it within the next weeks or month. If so, I may keep it. If not, I toss it without regret. A relatively full bottle means I stand little chance of using much of it up soon anyway. Just a waste of fridge space. A relatively empty bottle means I've already got good use from it. No need to cry over minimal waste. If I'm buying meat on sale because it's at or close to "the date," I'm buying it for immediate consumption. Maybe "thaw overnight in the fridge" applies better to folks who keep their fridges warmer than I, but for me very little thaws overnight in the fridge. So if I froze it close to the date, now I'd get to worrying about if parts of it are getting too old by the time it all fully thawed. More a mental thing to be sure, but for me saving a couple bucks on something that's going to take up freezer space for months only to be eyed suspiciously when ready to use is pound foolish. Your idiosyncrasies may vary....See MoreDid they sell me a bad piece of soapstone?
Comments (32)I'm going to work with the stone yard. I think they owe me something--at least a discussion! I'm resigned to paying to replace the stone. I've decided to change the layout slightly, since the stone is going out anyway. My friend pulled out most of it, and I can see ways to change my sink area that would work better than my current layout. I think my stone is Venata. I (finally!) did some research on soapstone! Venata is far too soft for a busy, messy cook like me! I've had granite in two previous houses, and nary a scratch or chip in 12 years. So, warning to newbies to soapstone: Learn from my mistake and don't buy without doing your research!! I'm going to replace it with a hard soapstone if I can find a remnant somewhere around here (MVA). I love the white veins in my stone, but can't stand those speckles, rings, scratches! It just looks dirty and messy to me. hsw: Where did you buy your Alberene? I like the idea of buying local! I've been reading soapstone threads like crazy now. The consensus seems to be that Julia, Belvedere or Green Mountain are the hardest stones. I want a pretty bulletproof stone, but I also want runnels, which (mostly) rules out granite because I want a matte finish. All the runnels threads say the runnels in granite have to be polished or they get gunky!...See Moretoxcrusadr
