Plant in pot with purple spike flowers

Can anyone identify the flower in the clay pot with the purple & lavender spike flowers? Has rather tender looking stems similar to those of coleus. An annual around Northern Wisconsin.

Sometimes it takes a while; I have a slow connection with a slower upload speed and it takes minutes to upload a photo, but you will see it appear in the typing box before you click Submit if you've been successful.

Sometimes you want to try a different browser since GW doesn't work well with all versions of Explorer.

Some folks find that if they upload to Houzz photo (Go to Your Houzz in the upper right of every page and click on upload photos or files) they can then use the Houzz Photo option to put it in a thread.

Many thanks. I'm already battling invasions from mimosa, liriope and nutsedge. This one will be heading to the compost pile and the Walker's Low catmint I have will take its place. If I'm going to have a representative of the mint family, I'll make it one I like.

Echium fastuosum maybe, the flowers can be purple to blue and the flower varies between a little chubby to more conical in shape. I plant Mr. Happy hybrids in my garden for the tall blooms from Annie's. Pride of Madeira has a tendency to freeze in my garden from cold blasts of canyon air. I completely agree, it's used in a lot of bird seed mixes so that is probably how it arrived. I had a very nice sunflower come up in my snapdragon pot this year, most likely from the bird seed.

buddleia it is I believes, a dwarf variety, with smaller leaves, and compact growth habbit, great for container, and blooming all year for me in tropic.

Thank you for suggestions. I've switched to Chrome browser and also resized and cropped photo to smaller.
