Soft Water question - Soften both hot/cold?
Comments (3)sherriz - Why is it that you want to soften your water? While I don't recommend it, I can understand why some people might want to soften only the HOT water, but never only the COLD water (whomever recommended that to you has no idea what they are talking about). If you do not soften at least the water going to your hot water heater, you will have hardness scale build up in your hot water heater, causing it to fail prematurely. Your dishes will also come out of the dishwasher with scale and spots. Softening only the cold water is worse than no softening at all - you get all of the expense and salt-hauling of a softener, with NONE of the benefits of softened water. If you soften only the hot water, you will still see hardness buildup in your showers and sinks and need to use more detergent in your washing machine to compensate for the hardness. Best practice is to soften all of your water. The only reasonable exception is to tee off a line upstream from the softener for drinking water only....See MoreShut off water valve to fridge when going away for two weeks?
Comments (14)You are really asking two questions (1) should the water to the fridge be turned off and (2) should the water to the house be turned off. Only Samsung can tell you about its appliance; however, the poster who told you to be sure that the automatic icemaker isn't going the entire time is absolutely correct. But I don't think that you should shut off the water solely to this refrigerator. You should shut off the water to the house, why? Because if something springs a leak (and there is no reason a brand-new refrigerator line should spring a leak but many older pipes may spring a leak) only the water in the pipes and the hot water heater will drain into the house, something between 30 and 100 gallons of water, if the mainline is on literally thousands of gallons can drain into the house.... Comments (1)Some valve bodies have an auto shut off feature which is designed to prevent scalding. If one side has no pressure, both sides are shut off inside the valve body. Or you dislodged some huge chunk of rust and it made its way to the shower valve. I can't see from here. Try dissembling the shower valve and flushing it out....See Morewater flows from hot valve when supply to H2O heater shut off
Comments (1)Depends on the construction of the valve body. Have you tried calling the manufacturer? If you do not know who made it, post a picture on the Terry Love Plumbing Forum and ask the Pro's there....See Morespanish lavender
