Mine is on a somewhat dry slope with 5 hours sun, call 7am to noon. Planted 3 years ago as a 3 gallon 2' tall shrub. Its now only 3' tall due to tons of dieback from the winter but its almost 6' wide. Your site in eastern PA sounds ideal to me. Its a very nice shrub so I'd recommend planting it.

has no one posted here of late. it's been a week & this is still at the top of the page. I planted some buckeye's in pots & some have already sprouted. as I already stated many of last years nuts did not overwinter when I stored them. they just shriveled up. this year I'm planting everything. I do not have room to try & keep these indoors so i'll heel in the pots. but-when I plant the nuts how can I protect them from squirrels? I'm thinking about putting some rocks around them & putting a piece of plywood on the rocks. that would allow some room in case any shoots poke their heads out of the ground. i'll plant them in a tight cluster so it should not require more than 1/2 of a sheet.

jrj2, you may have gotten seeds of the Ohio buckeye tree. Not sure how well that will do in south GA. Try getting some seeds for red buckeye or bottle brush buckeye. But for the original question, buckeye seeds germinate fine when planted in a pot and left out for the winter (protect them from squirrels with wire mesh). Don't bury the seed too deep, just about a 1/2 half into the soil. Bottle brush buckeye also can be propagated by separating the suckers that grow from the base.
