Groundcover roots a problem around retaining wall?

brackerva

I have a steep hill rising immediately behind my house, 30 to 45° grade, 8-10 feet high, 8 feet away from the house, about 40 feet wide total on two sides of the house. It has a 4-6 foot retaining wall.

I'm starting to install ground cover to replace the weeds and for erosion control. I'm planning to experiment with winter Jasmine, low grow sumac, ornamental grasses, maybe Tigereye sumac, maybe crape myrtle shrubs.

My question is: Do I need to worry about the roots of any of these things damaging or otherwise interfering with the retaining wall?

Feel free to criticize my choice of plants or offer any other advice.

Allan
