It's August, how is your build coming along?
Comments (80)Jaymie, I've been babysitting trades for the past month or so. I've never seen a bigger bunch of [dare I say it?] PANSIES in my life. I was called off the desk for anything from plumbing valves not fitting in a tub deck to notching a sixteenth out of our harwoods for an HVAC opening. We moved beds in with a week to go[then moved them out after the electrical inspector advised he would not give a final until ALL personal posessions were out of the home], and I found myself just this past Sunday afternoon grading an enclosed crawl [a second time] to please our building inspector. Having said that, I hope wifey and child grow bored of this one quick because I can't wait to do it again! Full details after the touch up and cleaning crew has been through on friday............I'm looking forward to relaxing weekend of culinary delights, a bit of puttering, and a relaxing night with Abby watching E.T. on our Pioneer Kuro. PS.....cabinets are AWESOME.....worth the wait!...See MoreIt's December, how is your build coming along?
Comments (72)I am proud, thrilled and ecstatic to say I am DONE! Or as done as we are going to get for now, anyway. We have been working on this house for over 5 years and we have nearly moved in. No CO yet...we will get that next month. I still have lots of little things to do like touch-up the nail marks on the trim and building a chase around the range hood vent pipe, but other wise I am done with the main part of the house. The sunroom needs flooring and trim still and the master bedroom and bath is not even started yet (except for framing), but it is so nice that all the hard work has finally paid off and I have a beautiful home now....See MoreHow Are You Coming Along with Your Thankgiving Preps?
Comments (14)Am trying something new with pumpkin pie this year. I have made the filling, brought it to a simmer on top of the stove for 5 minutes, and it is now in the saucepan, covered with a towel and then a lid to cool so that I can put it in the refrigerator overnight. I hope that this method takes away that sometimes raw pumpkin taste that pumpkin pies have (I hope y'all understand what I am saying). Early tomorrow morning will blind bake pie crust, then pour the filling in and bake in the toaster oven. This is also supposed to keep the filling from cracking. We'll see. Also have dressing/stuffing made just waiting for some stock to be added in the morning. I am going to cook in the crockpot. Have also decided to cook sweet potatoes in the crockpot. Turkeys are thawed. Tonight, still have to prepare cucumber salad and dough for hot rolls that will stay in fridge overnight. Hopefully, I will get the herbal iced tea made, also. Carrot cake is made. I was going to make a homemade cranberry mold, but after consultation with family, discovered that they would prefer the Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce, so that is what we will have. I am tired just reading this....See MoreHow are your Jade cuttings coming along everyone?
Comments (15)Martin, are you using lights and fans or have your cuttings in a very sunny window that gets hot on sunny days even in winter? Mines do. I have Acadama and even that dries out for my cuttings very fast. If I don't water them, at least the very surface of them, they shrivel. I found that depending on the type of conditions and mixes they are rooted in, depends on what we do to water them. For me it can become very tricky without losing a few here and there. So frustrating. That is why I will try over and over again with so many cuttings of the same plant until I get it just right. I think I have it right now because all 3 remaining of the 7 cuttings of my Langlois that I took are finally rooting and hanging on now. I had to cut my mother plant back so much to get at least three to root that I almost lost it( It's no wonder they are hard to find and very expensive if found. Now I wonder how many here have been successful at rooting the ones that are important to them of the one cutting they spent big bucks on, or spent years trying to find that rare one. This I know that rooting the variegated forms with lots of white is almost impossible of not done correctly. One has to keep a close eye on them that they don't get too much water, too much humidity, too much cool weather, not enough light, or not enough water or not enough air movement or too much sun. Rooting either comes very easy for some, especially the rarer species, or a constant vigilance for others. I would say I am the later half.lol Great job and thanks for your experience as well as every one else. I wonder how the cuttings of those of whom spent bigs bucks or for rare ones as gifts from others are doing always too....See More- 7 years agolast modified: 7 years ago
