Is that a brown cow eating your roses? That's so cute. It's a beautiful animal !!

That's after I dumped horse manure pH 8 on Duchess de Rohan, and its foliage went down-hill. I forget completely that old-garden roses don't like it alkaline. Duchess de Rohan was 100% clean for years with sulfate of potash/gypsum fertilizer, at pH below 7.

She's a "red" cow. Cows tend to be very vain about their hair color, as are their owners. We actually had to pluck a hair from her tail and submit it for the generic testing so we can have "red" on her registration.

Another garden pest left these under my roses.

Is there a difference in taste between brown eggs, green eggs, and white eggs? I once bought eggs from chickens fed with fish-meal, and those eggs were fishy-tasting, YUCK !! From that time, I always look for "vegetarian-fed" hens, preferably flax meal for high-Omega-3.

I love how the sun shines through the cow's ear!! I've never heard of green eggs. How interesting!! I googled Arucana Chickens and see that they have feather that curl up and out - under their beaks. How cute!!

The cow is named Rosemary, and she is a breed called Dexters. They are half the size of normal cows and are bred for meat and milk. They are a very gentle and personable breed that are favored by families with small plots. I do not milk her do to a busy schedule, but I hope to do so in the future. The milk from Dexter is partially homogenized and it suppose to be more digestible than regular cows milk.

My fresh eggs taste great, I don't think that the shell color is makes any difference.

I live in an HOA... My neighbor said they don't care if I get some chickens though as long as I don't get a rooster! (They won't report me to the HOA!) It's kinda tempting to get 2. I live on a third of an acre with a pond in the back. Is it difficult to raise chickens?

Rosemary...what a lovely name. It's interesting that Dexters are smaller and sweeter and other breeds of cows. Do they only come in this color?

Filly: Raising chickens is easy, around here the hardest part is making sure that their coop is safe from night time predators. We save all our vegetable scraps for the chickens, in turn they give us eggs and fertilizer. I definitely think that you should try raising chickens.

Carol: The color of Dexter cows is black, red and dun. They originated in Ireland where they were raised on small homesteads so temperament was important.

Valrose - so the chickens will eat peelings? How cool! I just thought they ate seeds.

How neat about the cows. I love how they stayed solid colors, and didn't get all mixed up by inbreeding. Although I love the look of Holstein cows. Interesting how they bred for good temperments. Cool!
