Question: Roof/Shingle Flashing
Comments (8)Thank you all for your responses. My gut feeling told me that it was a crappy job. I am going to talk with the GC tomorrow and request that the work be corrected. We will also have a look at the house we viewed to see the standard of quality for the roofers work to see if it is the same as what has been done on ours. I think it was due to the fact that the roofer that was working in that area was a bit lazy. I was up at the house the morning they started and he sat on his butt almost the whole time I was there. I commented to the GC that I was sure glad I wasn't paying him by the hour! That same morning I was meeting with the kitchen designer and the same guy walked right through us while we were talking with a ghettoblaster on his shoulder that was cranked. I just shook my head. Luckily his level of enthusiasm was not the same as the rest of the crew! sierra - We are not in snow country so lack of ice and water shield isn't a problem. I am still disappointed with the color but since we weren't specific about it I will either pay to have it replaced or paint it. This is the only spot on the house where the flashing is visible. lsst - I was considering just painting it so I am glad to hear that it held up well for you. Do you recall which paint you used? mighty anvil - is this what you mean by stepped?...See MoreURGENT Cedar shingle layout question
Comments (7)Due to the proximity of your window trim your solution works fine. Typically you want to shorten several courses to accomodate the top and bottoms of windows, walls etc. So instead of going short 1" on one course, you'd shorten four courses by 1/4" each. The reason they don't want you to go shorter than 4" is because the flat grain in white cedar cups and curls so easily. I've done 2" trims like this with Western Red Cedar Shingles which are 100% vertical grain, and they still look great after 20 years....See MoreQuestion about shingles
Comments (18)Thanks, ladies. Chisue, the first one started under my left breast, and now it has spread to a bigger spot a little lower and closer to the center of my abdomen. I didn't think I was any more stressed than usual, but I'm dealing with brain tumour issues and that's not always easy. The ER doc said she reviewed my medical history and feels I have a low functioning immune system. I'm still having some issues with my wrist. I discovered it was broken in October (I think) when the chiropractor sent me for an xray. I have no idea when or how I broke it, but it was a fragility break. I may have mentioned that when it happened, I can't remember. Anyway, I pass the time trying to enjoy myself developing skills in hobbies I enjoy- gardening, cake decorating and sewing. I'm a very nervous sewer, for some reason. I just try to stay focussed on positive activities. I do believe my shingles could have been worse.. I had started to get that same pain around my side towards the back, but nothing has developed there as of yet. Fingers crossed (but it's hard to type that way)....See MoreShingles Vaccine question
Comments (46)Terilyn, that is BIZARRE. The chicken pox vaccine is, as they all are, dead disease that increases your bodies antibodies to fight live disease. Where it is possible to have such a slight case of chicken pox one might not become immune, to have that many "sever" cases--would be most unusual, if not impossible according to generally held beliefs on disease. My son brought chicken pox home from Kdg. the year the vaccine was just being made readily available. He had maybe 10 pox. His sisters three and 6 mos got it MUCH worse. The 6 month old was COVERED. I do think he is likely not to be immune and I worry about him getting it as an adult. When I asked my doctor about the shingles vaccine she let me know it could be prohibitively expensive and that I should check with my Insurance provider. I was happy to be covered. Thank the lord for private coverage!!! I received the pneumonia shot in my 40's. I had been contracting bronchitis and or pneumonia at least twice a year and the Doc was concerned about lung damage. I was told it was unknown how long that shot was good for--they usually give it to people 65+ and most die still covered. I will likely get a booster in a few years....See Moredonna_loomis
