deedles, a lot depends on the underlying surface. In a steamy bathroom, some moisture will work its way between the wall surface and the back of the wallcovering, and different wallcovering materials will behave differently to that condition. We repapered our master bathroom 21 years ago (autumn 1990) as a DIY project with a foil prepasted wallpaper. The walls had been papered before, and we removed the old wallpaper to expose the plaster underneath, which was a good surface to paper on. Over the years, we have had to flatten curling at the seams a couple of times (injecting additional paste and rolling), but after the seam flattening the overall result looks the same now as it did the day we installed it. Last year, we papered the previously glossy oil-paint covered walls of our downstairs powder room, and we needed to do a lot of surface preparation to make sure that the "paper" (we used a Rasch -- German brand -- "nonwoven peelable fabric" [NOT vinyl] product that is very dimensionally stable) would adhere to the surface. I doubt that we would have ventured trying to adhere a prepasted vinyl or paper wallcovering to that surface, even after the preparation. So far -- after a year -- the not-vinyl, nonwoven peelable Rasch product is working very well. It is hard to tell from the pictures on the page that you linked whether the Cole & Sons paper you are considering is true paper, vinyl, or nonwoven peelable; if you have a choice, by all means go with the nonwoven peelable. But even if it is available only as a prepasted paper or vinyl, our master bathroom experience suggests that you can get at least a couple of decades out of it.

WEll. I don't know if this is helpful, but... I drove over 3 hours to get bathroom fixtures for our master bath but when I got it all home we decided to return it. It's not really the product's fault, though... I'd seen the new Godmorgon line last time I was there and really liked it a lot. Unlike most of their other bath cabs, the fasteners aren't visible; the cabinets do look a little more substantial and expensive than most of theirs. (In fact they are more expensive than most of Ikea's). The Braviken vanity tops, especially the thick ones, are pretty lovely in person. It's a resin and crushed marble composite... basically cultured marble I guess but nice and rich looking and substantial. Anyway we needed a medium wood tone and they only have a lovely blonde, a great glossy modern white, and dark brown. One day I saw they had a new color and drove down to see it in person. It's so new there wasn't one on the floor, so they pulled a sample piece from storeroom for me to see. I liked the finish/color OK so I bought $1000 worth (you have to buy the legs, top, etc all separately...). When I got it home and unpacked it, realized that the drawer design was totally different than the other colors, and I did NOT like it. Way too retro-70s. A big disappointment. Now we're having ot custom made which costs 4x as much :( We are keeping the legs though, for the custom cabinet. There's a great line of wall cabinets and amazingly inexpensive mirrors that coordinates, too. This Godmorgon line looks really nice in person, much nicer than it does in the Ikea catalogs, which I feel are styled pretty cheaply. if you google Ikea bathroom, or Ikea vanity, and choose "images" you'll find some shots of "real-life" Ikea baths. I thought the interior of the Godmorgon was really nice, too. Nice solid-birch slatted drawers. Not dove-tailed but still seemed a definite step above the typical Home Depot type vanity! I do know there are some GW who've used the Hollviken sink tops and love them. I was going to keep the Braviken for our custom vanity but chickened out because I was worried about scratching it. I just like good old ceramic better!

Thanks for the comment. So far the vanity itself, and even the sink, are posing no problem (keep your fingers crossed). More of a compatability issue between the Ikea sink and non-Ikea faucet. Lucky for me, I guess, I don't care that much about the faucet, so I'm just going to return the Kohler and buy an Ikea one. I do think Ikea should let consumers know that this is an issue.

Are you talking about the Sektion kitchen cabinets or the IKEA bathroom cabinets (Godmorgon or Hemnes, usually)? We did Hemnes bathroom cabinets in our master bath last year and are waiting on contractor to start work on kids/hall bath that will have Sektion kitchen cabinets as vanity. We are doing a Corian countertop from a local fabricator and will "install" cabinets ourselves since it's a straightforward run of base cabinets. Cost is the cabinets you choose, countertop (obviously varies based on size/material) and plumber. We are doing a long double sink vanity of 102" with three banks of drawers and two basic door cabinets (might add an inner drawer at the bottom of the sink cabinets later if there is room after plumbing). Cabinets/handles came to just under $1,000 and Corian counter with integrated sinks came to about $1,250 installed. I think our plumbing charge for moving the drains to fit the new configuration and installing the new faucets/sinks is $950 (but that would have been the same with any vanity). I hope we like it but won't know till end of May! Make sure you have the room for the greater height and depth and be prepared for an adjustment period where it will probably look too big. Think through your sink size and placement - I think we are going to use more of the extra depth behind the faucet vs front of the sink. Height is going to be great for my 6' son; little children would need to use a stool at any part of the range of adult size vanities anyway. Our vanity has one side in a corner so there is always an option for a retractable side makeup mirror for any future need for "closeups" (greater depth makes it harder to lean in at the mirror). We've had two IKEA kitchens and greatly appreciate the style and sturdiness of drawers and soft close doors, etc.
